Thanks Krouebi. That certainly puts things in perspective for those here in North America that are complaining about the solar roof issue!

Do I understand from your post that in Europe the passenger side wiper arm is unavailable in any package on the 2010?? Also, what about G2 and G1 cars? Are they missing the passenger wiper also?

    Thanks

    Hi Frank,

Don't worry, of course European Priuses all come with TWO wipers ;). It's just that in the US, the 2010 comes with a rather fancy (and probably heavier) wiper arm on the passenger side, which - by extending its length during the wiper arc - manages to clean further into the upper corner of the windshield on the passenger side. Over here, we get a more conventional wiper arm like on the 2nd generation model - which means that in rainy weather the passenger looks out through a very partially cleaned windshield.

Interesting.... I know the '10 Prius (left-side driver) wiper arm has the 4-link mechanism to increase wiper sweep area in the upper left. Questions: 1. I've never noticed - the right-hand drive versions of the '10 Prius - the windshield wiper configuration is the same as left-drive versions. Is this correct? So the upper right windshield corner area is not swept as much as the left? 2. Is this typical of most right-hand drive autos? I've been to Australia, Japan, and England many times...but for some reason never noticed... Can someone enlighten?

I agree that a moonroof should be an option. I had one put in after I bought my 2008. Yes, it was expensive but I love being able to open the roof. I do wonder if it has impacted my MPG, though, as I struggle to get more than 45MPG. I had the body-side moldings put on, too. I would also like the signal mirrors.

    hill....

it's more about the point that these "questions" pop up every day.. what's the point of making a new forum when it's all been answered by the Toyota techs.. but apparently this member arrived too late to take great knowledge from that...

... so it really boils down to... how come nobody ever uses the search function?... seriously people....

btw.. i love that minivan comment.. keep in mind a corvette has a load capacity two. two fatties will break the carrying capacity of that car...

Go buy a Fisker Karma then, they have solar roofs... You are not getting what you want with the 2010 Prius then. This never gets old... :)

    - or emigrate over here ;).

According to the current price list from the Netherlands, a fully equipped Prius 3rd Generation, in Pearl White, with the sunroof, leather interior, the Tech Package, HUD, 15" wheels etc. - and without the fancy US-only passenger-side wiper arm (but of course it does come with a passenger-side wiper :p) can be yours, on the road, for a mere 36,931 Euro = 50,186.30 US Dollar .

Then you can happily go on your way, paying (in NL) 1.351 Euro per litre of fuel (that converts to US Dollar per gallon to the tune of 5,12  :cheer2:).

    :welcome:!

I dare not think what the Tesla "S" will be over here if and when it comes - AFAIK the price for the Tesla roadster has been "converted" to ± 110,000 Euro or ± 149,481 US Dollar .

A fully equipped Lexus RX450h costs around 82,000 Euros in Germany - according to a recent comparison to the US prices the difference is enough to pay for a Lexus RX350 :mod:.

This is of course without taking into account countries like Denmark (where I was born ) where the "old" Lexus RX400h has a list price of ± 1,290,000 Danish Krone = 235,502 US Dollar .

@DeanFL: LHD and RHD versions of course have their wiper arrangements mirrored. Decades ago this wasn't always the case - we once had a marvellous Triumph where the passenger had far better sight in rain than the driver, as only the steering wheel and not the wipers had been "converted". The 4-link passenger side wiper arm seems to be a US exclusive - take a look at the photo series from the Japanese pre-shipping yard (http://photozou.jp/photo/top/237398) to see.

You know what I bet that when the economy improves or gas prices go up and the prius flies off the lots (which ever happens first) they will start working on that plant in here in the US and then when it opens we will probably get the fully equipped model V with a solar moonroof.

I know I know, the search tool ... but don't forget ... the search tool isn't always the best it ought to be, at best. At its worst, it sucks major sphincter. That being the case, what can you say. Obviously the whole moonroof w/ "such&such" options are an issue. Look how the thread has grown legs. Venters must vent.

I understand your desire, as I had it too.....and am missing the moonroof that I had in my 2007 Camry Hybrid that I traded for my Prius V with ATP. However, I did my research before buying, and as the threads below say, it is about weight and classification of the car. The Prius is engineered and marketed for fuel efficiency and for those who want a green car. They actually made the Gen III bigger inside (roomier) and increased the options, including a 1.8 (from 1.5) liter engine that gets more horsepower and torque. That moonroof that you don't seem to think weighs much does.....the GLASS solar panels are heavy and would have impacted the fuel economy and weight classification from the EPA. All I can say is that I paid $34,000 for my Prius V with ATP.....so adding the Solar Moonroof would have made it nearly $36,000. If you really want a car loaded with all of those options, you could go for a regular car that's loaded for cheaper.........I paid for the fuel economy with as many options as I could get (for that fuel economy).

I could not have expressed it better. I have gone through the same analysis and will do as you did when I buy my next Prius, which is likely to be a V with ATP in BP.

Hoping that this is an appropriate thread for this question. I'm trying to "preference" a 2010 for my fiance and got two different responses from dealers that are 15 miles apart. One said they can get me a package III with the roof option, one says you absolutly cannot - I would have to move up the package IV for the roof option. Surely someone on PC can tell me who is right and who is wrong.

It depends on your area. Technically, Toyota is making Prius IIIs with SR but they are very hard to come by in many parts of the country. Seems most who are successful in acquiring one live in CA. It could be that one or the other of the dealers has an allocation list for your area and saw that none (or perhaps some) were coming in. I would make sure you talk to the internet/fleet dealers (emailing works well!!) as they have direct access to these lists and are forthcoming with this information. I would also try more than 2 dealers (IOW, be willing to drive, if you really want a III with SR). You may decide that if the SR is a must, that going to a IV is the only way to assure delivery within a smaller timeframe. Otherwise, be willing to wait or travel.

Best of luck to you and I hope you get what you want!
