If you go with lower profile tires, they are going to be wider - if you are careful, you can find wheels as light or lighter than the stock ones - my experience after almost 2 years - the 17 inch wheels have a 2-3 MPG penalty on the average.

    Litterally, YMMV.

That's true, there enourmous differences between tires and wheels and it seems like nobody has yet compiled all of that into one searchable database.

As for wheel weight, in my eternal quest for lightweight wheels I think I've come across a total of 2 that I find stylish and light enough. Those are the SSR GT1 and the Racing Sparco Viper-R. The problem is that no US distributor seems able to get the Viper-R, even though Discount Tires is now an authorized Racing Sparco distributor. As for the SSR's, I put a set of those on my civic 5 years ago and was hoping for something different for my Prius.

As for the question - It's my opinion that 95% of all +2 wheel/tire upgrades for the Prius will result in a loss of mpg. If you want to be in the 5% exception, then choose a light set of wheels and light tires. SSR Comps are easily obtainable and light, but I think their kind of ugly.

The SSR Comps are not only ... ugly but at 400+ per wheel, not reasonable for non-professional application. I use to have a set on an MR2 Spyder I owned.

These are the ones I bought, I was hoping someone could tell me what decrease in MPG may be as I never really used the stock wheel/tires.

I have a complete set of stock wheels and tires I would like to sell $400.

    Thanks

It's a little difficult to tell without more inforamtion on the wheel weight and how you drive. What are you getting right now and how do you drive? With my stock wheels/tires and a 120 mile R/T commute I get approx 48mpg.

getting 48 now,and only on my second fill up, so I guess the change didn't cause too much of a loss.
    Thanks.

I have put that 17"TC + P7000 set from ebay on my Prius and discovered that not only the original lugnuts work ( get the locks ) but also the centercaps fit also and it looks great. One note the tires arrived 10lbs low when I got them. Once they were properly inflated the milage loss was minmal. I strongly recommend the mud flaps when getting these rims. They reduce posible spray by the slightly wider than stock tires..
