I just put my deposit to get into a wait list for a Prius V, and I am now choosing the color between Blizzard Pearl and Classic Silver.

My previous cars are all silver or grey. Actually, I like pearl white. However, many friends tell me that pearl white is the most difficult color to maintain cleanness. They say I may need to wash my car every week and wax it twice every month, or it will become beige soon. On the other hand, my vehicle painter friend says that if I have some scratch and want to partially re-paint it, it will be very difficult to spray the same pearl white. There must be some difference between original and new paint. The maintenance cost (time & money) is high for the pearl white color.

Furthermore, I find that the color of the bumper is a little bit different from the body from the attached picture.

I really love this Lexus-like pearl white, but their comments make me hesitate. Also, Silver should be the easiest color to maintain. Could you give me your two cents on pearl white (Blizzard Pearl)?

I currently own a pearl white IV, but have owned both white and silver cars in the past. I think they are both about equal in terms of keeping clean, but would have to give a slight edge to silver in terms of hiding dirt better. I can't comment on the re-painting questions, since I have no idea if it would be more difficult to touch-up.

I would say that dark colors are the hardest to keep looking clean since they show water spots SO easily.

Good luck with your choice. The blizzard pearl does look VERY nice.

I would go with the winter grey. That is what I am about to purchase and also what I own now in my current Infiniti. It rarely needs a wash and does not show dirt, etc. It also looks great. Just my two cents....

Go with the white. For one white is the new in color and silver is history. Besides the base model for the Prius over the past several years was silver and it is wornout. The white is a $220 option because it is a pearl white and the color changes as the sun light hits it. Count how many silver Prius's you see then count the white ones they are few and far between. The color of the bumper in that picture is darker because it's in shadow...the whole car will be the exact same color.

Blizzard Pearl is really nice, but like all white vehicles, shows dirt very quickly. Silver does hide the dirt better. I like the Blizzard a lot and in previous year's the only Blizzard Pearl we had was a limited 50th year Hawaii Edition. Only 50 made for the state.

Another co-worker order his yesterday in Blizzard. He does custom paint jobs and said that the color would be hard to match.

White will be more high maintenance than silver, which is very forgiving (one reason I have a silver Prius ;)).

Matching the pearl paint will be more difficult, because it's a 3 step paint (vs. 2 for metallic paint).

Having said that, metallic paint is more difficult to match than non-metallic, but that hasn't stopped me from having metallic paint on nearly every car I've owned.

Regarding the bumper appearing to be a different color, you'd be surprised how many cars have bumpers that don't totally match the rest of the car, particularly when viewed at certain angles and light conditions. The paint for bumpers typically contains flex agents, which can cause a very slight difference in appearance, plus they're often painted on a different line in the factory so the paint may not be a 100% match.

Get the color you like. To me the biggest issue would be the level of maintenance required.

IMHO, compared to darker colors, this won't show as much road dirt from a distance. Bug splats, on the other hands, are fairly noticeable.

I've always found that a pearlized white maintains a "clean" look easier than a pure white. I've had my blizzard pearl for two weeks, and didn't wash it until yesterday. It still looked fairly clean after 550 miles. Paint matching is more difficult, but I've also found that pearlized white paints don't show light scratches as much as most other colors do.

For the last 15 years, I've had 2 white cars and a gun metal gray car. White cars do have a tendency to show more dirt. Non-metallic white is fairly easy to match in case of fixing a scratch.

Metallic paint is another matter. Any paint shop you ask will most likely tell you that metallic paint is more difficult to match in color and luster.

Personally, I wish that Toyota would offer a generic (non-metallic) white.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for all of your opinions!

I agree that I should forget so much concern and just choose which color I like better. :) My previous cars are all silver or grey, so it should be the time for me to take a different attempt at pearl white. If it is so... hard to maintain, I'll learn at least.

Funny thing is the most popular colour for cars in Australia is white. One reason is that it is easier to keep clean!
My choice would be blizzard pearl!

There is a reason why the Pearl is the Hottest color is its easy to take care of and the metallic in it makes it off the hook. When the sun hits it just right it is beautiful. Some peal paint has to much cream color in it but Toyota got this one just right. When you tint the windows it sets it off even more. I just got done with a 20% tint and a full clear Bra up front.

Blizzard Pearl does look even better when the windows are tinted. I'm very happy with mine, but I do notice the car looks dirty much quicker than my Voodoo Blue FJ did.

I looked at a Blizzard Pearl today on a dealer lot, and I noticed right away that the bumpers are a different color than the rest of the car. However, there was no color difference in the Winter Gray or Silver cars. I'm going to check out my friends Lexus tomorrow that is a similar pearl white and see if hers is the same. I still like the BP and WG colors.

There is NO difference in the bumper color. It must be the shade. I detailed ours after we got home from the initial trip and it is the first new car that we have taken delivery of that I couldn't find any flaws. If it is damaged, it will be more trouble to repair due to the multi process finish. As others have mentioned, it is a truly unique color compared to the standard paints. In full sun, it has an outstanding look.

I haven't looked that hard at my Blizzard Pearl Gen III, but normally the plastic parts take on a slightly different color than metal painted parts. I've noticed it on Tacoma fender flares and some of our other cars.
