Corvette enthusiasts love to wave at one another. If we like the other persons car we give them a thumbs up sometimes two if it is really cool. I have tried waving at other Prius owners and they won't wave back and I'm a new kid on the block with the new Prius. I'm 0 for 6 so far.
350Z drivers usually give each other a thumbs up when we see each other. Sadly, I don't see anything like this amongst Prius drivers. :/ Maybe it's more confined to sports cars.
Aye. We've got well over 20 Prii just in our neighborhood! There are several threads on this, i.e.: http://priuschat.com/forums/newbie-forum/46014-do-prius-people-wave-each-other.html Congratulations on your new Prius! Peace, Dave
I used to wave and people used to wave back. That was in 2004 and 2005. Then, the Prius went "mainstream" and my waves went unreturned. I eventually gave up. Recently, I waved at a Prius driver and got a look like "what?!" I wave Prii into traffic when they are waiting.
Yup! Back in the day we'd pass a \\// wave. That finger configuration was suppose to indicate "V" for Voltage. But when you've got a license that says 1701-A and you're driving a vehicle that is boldly going... .
There was a time when all foreign sports car drivers waved to each other. Also, many motorcyclists wave. I'm a touring cyclist (as in bicycle) and many cyclists wave when passing each other. I've tried waving at other Prius drivers; I think it would be cool to acknowledge other progressives, but I never have gotten any response. I think it's a function of numbers; just too many to really take notice. Also, from my perspective, most Prius drivers are old fogeys... Just my observation.
Back in the day up to the 2004 MY, we'd get waves - but not anymore. However, I suspect a 2010 may wave to another...
Here in the Pacific Northwest and Oregon in particular, we have an over abundance of Prius' on the road. Why in the world would we not want to share our passion for our favorite hybrid? I'm not ready to give up waving just yet. :humble:
I would say that 90% of the other motorcyclists wave when I am riding. Definitely the old fogey thing is in play as well. Sometimes I see so many old people in Prii it makes me feel old just driving a Prius. However I have to say that the new body style is definitely sportier and younger feeling. Maybe it will attract younger drivers and push the older ones to the Fusion (yeeecchk) Looks like every 4dr sedan my dad ever drove. G
Let's just hope almost all get to a point where no waving to each other ... when there is hopefully so many 2010's on the road, it would be pointless to do so. I look forward to seeing 'gobs' of 3rd Gen's, all over, everywhere, really.
When the GenII Prius first came out, back in the good 'ol days, I experienced the "waving" experience. This was here in Honolulu. '04s were a rare sight when they first came out. other drivers would wave or smile back at me. sigh! gone are those days. now i guess we may be smog free but sure are smug to each other.
Back in the day, all motorists would wave to each other but that was after the days passed that they would stop for a cup of tea on the roadside. In outback Australia it is common to wave at each passing car going the other way but that is because you see so few other motorists. This is starting to vanish from the roads as outback roads become busier. I've tried waving to other Prius drivers, a lot of them are driving government or company cars so it's a waste of effort.
I'll definitely start waving. I didn't know that Prius drivers ever did that to each other. I've only had mine about a week, but I've had no waves yet. I still have only seen one other 3G Prius here in the DC area (crossing the Roosevelt Bridge to get onto Constitution Avenue). By the way, Jeep Wrangler drivers always wave to each other (only Wranglers, not the other models). So, waving is not just for sports cars.
