A month has gone by since I took delivery, and I have to say that I'm very happy with my new Prius. This is my first hybrid--after decades of driving sports & luxury cars--and I'll admit that I was more than a bit apprehensive. Over the years I've enjoyed driving my cars--usually in a sporting manner, and sometimes a bit near the limit--but for the last few years I felt like I wasn't taking advantage of all they had to offer. That, combined with wanting to decrease my carbon footprint, be more environmentally responsible, have less reliance on foreign oil--and pay less for gas--made me take the plunge. OK--I know--I'm preaching to the choir. After reading the initial reviews and going on 2 fairly long test drives, I was sold. It took me a little while to get used to driving at a different pace but the transition was fairly painless. Toyota has done well in terms of making the Prius more mainstream. As one of the car mags said in their initial review, the new Prius drives more like a real car--and less like a science experiment--than its predecessors. It drives great, I love the styling (exterior & interior), and fit & finish are top notch. I took advantage of the nice weather today and gave the baby a bath. Boy, she sure looks purdy....
I know what you mean stream. I came from an SUV and the Prius is a dream. Walking up to the car and grabbing the door handle and having it unlock is too cool! It's a good feeling too, huh. I've cleaned mine up three times now and I think it's doing me more good than the car!
I'm jealous of you on so many levels.. You've had your car for a month, I'm still waiting (6wks and counting!). I hope to get mine by the end of the month. You're in the SF area (love it out there) and you've had good weather to wash your baby. Here in Bos we've had one of the gloomiest June's on record, only 27% of the available sunshine. I was up this morning at 6am and thought "It was a dark and stormy night.." sigh. I'm glad you've made the transition well. I hope my husband does the same when ours arrives. Then again, if he doesn't, maybe I'll get to drive it more often! Keep enjoying your new car! And thanks for giving me something to look forward to!
This is my second Prius (had an 06). I've had the 2010 for about a month and still on my second tank of gas. I need to take it out for a long trip but so far I think this car is wonderful. As I've posted before, I really want to get a zero ICE car in the next five years but this car is really something. I believe all the comparisons between the gen II and gen III have been stated but after driving it a month all I can say is that Toyota is going in the right direction.
This is also my first Pruis and I took I delivery tuesday. I have pretty much a lead and I was drivng it home trying to keep it from going over the middle line and thinking I wonder how long is this going to last.
Glad to see that you are enjoying your new Prius. I look forward to reading more reports on your Prius V while I wait for mine. Enjoy!!
I've been driving mine since 5/30/2009 - 2100 miles and current tank is at 55mpg per display. Lifetime is about 50-51mpg per MID. No major problems to speak of. Solar roof isn't quite what I initially expected due to late day lack of performance, but I'm still glad I have it. The car still turns heads for those who notice the difference, and those who ride in it are continually impressed by the new features (i.e. Touch Tracer, MID, etc.).
