Even though the brochure states that remote engine start is available, my dealer informed me that Toyota decided not to include this option on the gen III prius? Is this accurate or is it even a port install option? Scott
oh oh i saw that too and as a condition i told my dealer i wanted it, they were not sure. does not seem like abig deal. ill see what they say in a couple of days when they try to fulfill their promise. the plot thickens. it seems like just a signalling device . 2 clicks tells it to turn on (simplified) one click turns it off. we will see my friend fred from nashville
This may not be correct. We have one on our lot since last week. But I have to say that I haven't tried it yet. Tomorrow I will.
dead phish. please please try it. let us know asap. and if you have a part number that would be heaven . thanks fred from nashville
Mine came with one ... it was on the sticker. Pkg V Blizzard Pearl w/Nav, cloth floors mats, applique, and remote start = $30,838
I wonder how hard the install is. I hope it is plug and play. Does anybody have the directions by chance?
Yes the remote start does work in the new Gen 3 Prius. It's a PIO normally ( Port Installed Option ) but it can also be a DIO ( Dealer Installed Option ). It works exactly as it's described to work. Two quick clicks on the LOCK button on the fob, followed by One 3 second hold of the LOCK button. The vehicle comes to life and says READY on the dash. If you unlock the door the vehicle turns off.
Saw the remote start listed on the options list of a version II two weeks ago here in Maine. Can't remember the cost, but think it was about $500.
I talked to the parts department and it should be plug and play. I am getting the instructions on it and will post it. If you are willing to tackle the job yourself, you can get the remote start for only $339.
It's available through the PriusChat Shop: PriusChat Shop : 2010 Toyota Prius OEM Remote Engine Start [PT398-47091] - $349.00
Thanks Danny. That is an even better price shipped! I looked through the instructions and it seems like it has to be hooked into the computer to activate it. I have attached the instructions.
well, the sponsor on this web site offers it. the neat thing is that the part number is included. pt398-47091. my dealer has ordered it for me. and iexpect it will work ok. fred from nashville. cant wait
Thanks for the installation guide. Is possible for a do-it-yourselfer to install the remote start? I noticed that a special computer and software is required as part of the installation. How much would it cost to pay a professional to install? Is it an overall saving instead of going to the dealer?
DONT BUY REMOTE. Prius is made not to idle. Dont install something that forces it to idle. Think about it.
Why don't you become informed before telling other people to think. The remote start puts the Prius in ready mode, the same state that pressing the start button in the car does. It does not force it to idle. It will idle as needed, just like in ready mode.
its done!! well, a few minutes ago they finished installing remote start in "smiling red". took about 3 hrs at the dealership. first gen 3 they had done. about an hour to hook it up to all the wiring harnesses. about 2 hours to tell the brain to recogize it and to program it. this is what happens. hit the lock button twice fast. then hold it for a few seconds. it starts. how do you know. the flashers start flashing for few minutes. in my case also the headlights turn on. when you unlock it the engine or whatever turns off, in my case i walk up to it and just open the door using smart and it turns off. nice and cool inside or toasty in the winter. does not seem to affect anything adversely so far. hope this helps. wait a minute please...wow! it worked from inside my house. could not see the car so the only way i knew was to stick my nose out the door. auto turn off after 10 mins. fred from nashville
