Question on iPod adapter for iPhone on 2010 Prius?

I thought this was going to be compatible only with Prius 2, but it looks like all nonNav models can get this because it says in the description:

Only available for non-Navigation equipped 2010 Prius models

Is this correct??? Can I install this in my nonNAV Prius 3?

If "This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone" then why do you want to attach it to your phone? What good will that do?

If you are attaching it to an iPod, you really don't need to reach it, since you should be able to control it with the steering wheel controls, I believe.

My 2 cents, I guess.

Anyone figure how to unplug the satellite receiver to plug in the iphone adapter?

 

Only Prius 2 (and likely Prius 1 when it comes out) does not come with a satellite radio receiver installed. The Prius 3 and above does come with it.

So, are telling me that, in my case (I'm getting nonNAV P3), if I have the part above installed (iPod connector) I would have to give up my satellite radio? That seems just stupid from Toyota…

Already asked my salesmen and he has no idea...

 

Should we assume the Toyota "fix" in September with the adapter that plugs into the back of the NAV won't interfere with the satellite radio? I can't imagine the design to be an either / or solution.

 

I have a Prius IV with the JBL Radio, non-navigation.
When I bought my car, I also ordered the Toyota iPod accessory kit/cable from the dealer. I went in for installation this week.
Short story: it is not compatible with my system.

They did try to hook it up, and I saw the cable. It is thicker than the white Apple iPod cable. It is black and also would reach the permanent cup holder. It came out of the lower, larger glove box.

I remember reading about iPod integration coming this fall. Does anyone remember if that is across the board? or with nav only? or without nav? or with/or without JBL stereo? I'm hoping that fix will work this fall. Otherwise, I do have the Aux jack, I guess.

 

So, would a solution be to get a toyota Nav head unit installed in place of my JBL, and what would that cost? and would that then be bluetooth audio streaming ready, as well as able to get the USB adapter in the future?

I can't believe this wasn't standard (like in Scions that cost 1/2 as much!)

 

It may not help you, but my iPhone 3gs works fine via Bluetooth with my 2010 prius V. You just pair the two and the wireless syncs over the air.

Sadly, the current 3Gs software for the iphone only seems to send the music itself. Other Bluetooth enabled mp3 players seem to be able to send control to the head unit as well (As seen in the pictures in the prius manual).

It was a little quirky though, if you add your phone to the pairing first via the cell phone headset pairing area, it doens't connect for music. It seems though to take a call while listening to music you'd have to push buttons to the phone area, then activate phone (so bluetooth cuts over). It's not quite as elegant (or even close) as I would have hoped.

 

Assuming it could be done, you're talking serious dollars to install the OEM nav unit--my guess is several thousand.

 

I picked up my model II June 30, and it came with port installed ipod adapter.

I'll try to attach the photo I took, but the cable is definitely thicker than the Apple recharge/USB cable and it is quite short. I could have an ipod hanging out of the lower glove compartment, but no way it would reach to the cup holders.

 

If you have a IV then this kit won't work as the satellite radio is built in. It will charge the iPod and the iPod will see the stereo in the car but the stereo won't see the iPod. I tried this adapter fresh from the dealer and it didn't work. I was, and still am, bummed...

 

Hi. Here in the UK the iPod connector is in the center console storage area. Out of sight and out of mind !

I know this is old but I dont know if the prius they sell in Mexico has xm installed I really doubt it but the prius here doesn't really fit with any of the us models

It has led lights and leather seats but no nav screen or solar roof but it does have reverse camera with the monitor being in the rear view mirror and it has homelink as well.

If the car does have the xm radio could I have it ununstalled or just disconnected to connect the iPod kit?
