This has to be one of the nicest accessories out there for the 2010 prius.. but why so pricy?? Its being a "cool" accessory make it be pricey?? I dont get how can that be so expensive. PriusChat Shop : 2010 Toyota Prius Illuminated Door Sill Protectors [PT922-47100] - $359.99$249.99
Well considering it is probably made of aluminum and has lights, $250 seems reasonable. I'm sure there is a good markup on it but the engineering costs and set up costs for tooling something like this that has a very limited (so far) market would be high. If it were generic I'm sure it would be somewhat cheaper.
The reason why the price is so high is because the only competition is your local Toyota Parts Department. With very little competition, you charge whatever a prospective customer is willing to pay. Keith
I have the sills installed in my Prius V, and they look great! I agree that this is one of the nicest upgrades. I paid $359 installed, and think that they were worth it.
because it's illuminated and it's a set of 4?? The only Prius set was around the same price but it wasn't illuminated and was only available from Japan. Closer to home, a set of front aluminium door sill plates with COROLLA silk-screened in costs Cdn$75. That's the cheapest I've found but comparing the Prius' rear door sills to the Corolla, I think the Prius ones are nicer (and more expensive to make). As with most things, there are many ways to make it. The price will determine how nice they turn out and how durable and expensive they look.
The price of things is based alot on volume as well. I'm sure they didn't make millions of them which makes the cost to you and I higher.
You are the type of customer Toyota and Stealerships love. Lets get real here, it is way to expensive for what you get. And most definitely overpriced for this economy.
Really? I guess I should start making and selling these things then, if there are more people out there like you. I know I can make them for less than $100.
Then make em and sell em you have a large cust base here on PC that would buy them from you for less if they could.
A set of billet aluminum or MOMO sill plates will easily run you over $100 and they are not lighted. I know for a fact you cannot create their equal for less than $100 because anyone with that level of skill would have a shop rate of over $80/hr here in CA. Furthermore, why are you always trying to put others down. Does it make you feel good?
"Stealerships" ,,,, you just can't quit using that term can you. For things that are overpriced in this economy, I suppose you think all things should be discounted??? Have you noticed that even GM's prices have risen since a few months ago. They have finally figured out by selling things at a loss cannot be made up by selling volume. I see people on this site talking about changing out their 15" or a set of 17" wheels/tires. Probably will cost $1600 and waste a set of $1000 15" wheel / tire combo. I see people adding $xx iPod adapters for their $xx ipods, I see people buying sunroofs, ATP's NAV, etc. Do you really think most of these people mind paying $250 for the sills? I doubt it. The economy only hurts for those who have lost jobs. If you have a job, you can find a great buy on houses right now at good rates. Sure housing is down because a lot of people have lost their jobs or are afraid they will, But the reality is that the people standing in lines to but a Prius are not the same people standing in soup lines. There is still a market for these things. Not for me, but I do understand the costs of tooling up for and manufacturing very limited aftermarket equipment. You're the one who needs to get real, not just on this post but the majority of your posts. You don't have a clue.
mmhmm. Make a nice set that illuminates with LEDs and is stylish. You could even make it compatible with Gen 2s so that you have a creater customer base. You can add it to your list of finding a source for wholesale MFDs for the 2nd Gen! Thanks Rest!
I like my door sills, didn't even think about it, I looked at the whole car for the price. It was the red one on the lot that I was able to buy and take home the same day. Just get the sills if you like them. They are cool. That sig at the bottem of my post is a photo I took of my sill. Divide that $350 over 5 year payments and it's not even worth the worry. This is a major car purchase, get what you want. The money you will save in gas will more than pay for those cool sills. I wish my back doors had them too. :/
If $250 is going to break the bank, perhaps the customer should not be dropping upwards of $30k on the car to begin with.
If you mean his using the term I agree; if you mean me talking about it getting old hearing it, well I guess I can ignore him.
I can't imagine people buying sunroofs or moonroofs, yet dealers make plenty of money on those. Just because you don't see value in something don't assume no one else does.
make some compatible with the 2004 to 2009, sell them for what you think is worthwhile. there is a huge market for them right here on this site... betcha ya cant do it for less that $200 a set
