The seat belt reminder, that's when it beeps every 20 seconds or so when not wearing a seat belt and keeps doing it? I wonder if they would stop that in Maryland because it is against the law to drive without seat belts. Are all you folks who want to disable reminders living in states without "Click it or Ticket" laws? Thanks, Rich N.
One thing I noted when I tried to do this: The two locking modes (speed linked and shift position) are apparently independent. I.e., you need to disable the shift position locking mode if you want the speed linked locking mode to work as expected. YMMV.
No, this is a feature new to Gen III. That's not to say you can't buy something from say, CoastalEtech.com to replicate the feature (at least the locking part).
No luck here... I just picked up my Prius IV today and managed to switch the smart key mode (to open all doors), but haven't been able to modify the auto-locking/unlocking per the instructions on page 69-70– it's a bit frustrating What I'm doing is: foot on brake pedal the whole time, press power button (car is now ready). I then shift the car to neutral (and release) then hold drivers door lock (or unlock) for 5 seconds. I get no response from the car. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
Re: No luck here... I tried and tried but couldn't get it to work with the owners manual instructions, so I brought it to the dealer and they did it with their computer.
I had no trouble changing mine to remain locked when the car was placed in "park" and to automatically lock at 12mph. So, in my case the P/lock is off, the P/unlock is off, the N/lock is on and the N/unlock is off (I think, I changed it 2 weeks ago and can't remember which I chose). Hints: 1. Each time you perform a function it either turns on or off the feature. You may need to play with each function a couple of times to figure out if it is ON or OFF. 2. Remember that you have to turn the car OFF between each attempt and start from the beginning. Making attempts one after another WON'T work. 1. For ALL functions - press the start button twice to put the car ON (NOT with your foot on the brake). 2. Leaving the shift in P: a. to have the car lock when shifted out of P - press and hold the "lock" side of the button on the drivers door. The car will beep chime times, then after a small delay, will beep. Let go on the lock/unlock button. If done correctly, the doors should lock, then unlock automatically. Turn the car off. b. to have the car unlock when shifted into P - press and hold the "unlock" side of the button on the drivers door. The car will beep chime times, then after a small delay, will beep. Let go on the lock/unlock button. If done correctly, the doors should lock, then unlock automatically. Turn the car off. 3. Move the shift to N then release: a. to have the doors lock at 12mph - press and hold the "lock" side of the button on the drivers door. The car will beep chime times, then after a small delay, will beep. Let go on the lock/unlock button. If done correctly, the doors should lock, then unlock automatically. Turn the car off. b. to have all the doors unlock when the drivers door is opened - press and hold the "unlock" side of the button on the drivers door. The car will beep chime times, then after a small delay, will beep. Let go on the lock/unlock button. If done correctly, the doors should lock, then unlock automatically. Turn the car off. As for the seatbelt and back up beeps - 1. I have a strict seat belt ON rule in my car, so leaving the beep on was a no-brainer, so passengers get the hint. 2. I personally prefer knowing that the beeps are reminding me that I'm backing up. For the short time it is in reverse, the beeps are tolerable. Think about it - most of the time you are either backing out of the driveway or a parking space. How long does that really take? The manual (pg 69-70) isn't very clear. Maybe this will be helpful to better understand the customizable lock/unlock functions.
Can I resurrect this thread? I tried this many times with it in the ON position and with the car on/brake down...doesn't work? What could I be missing? Thanks!
I am surprised at the number of people who have been told by the dealer that they could not do it. I just had mine done Tuesday. I had them change a number of things including: Change reverse beep to one beep only Lock doors at 12 mph They did it with a smile and they did it for free. You should never, ever be charged for this, and if your dealer claims to know nothing about it, call Toyota Customer Service and let them know about your treatment. This is all part of the delivery of the car and the service manager should be happy to help you. If he's not, take it to another dealer.
dsviv had a good explanation, and the primary reason for problems may be that you need to cancel the current setting before engaging the new one (go through the sequence to first cancel lock when moving out of park before you try to set another)
I also emailed my salesperson before pick up with a list of the customizations I wanted changes-autolocks, reverse beeping, etc. They did it right away and had it ready for me when I picked it up. No problem, no charge. I agree there should not be a charge for this service. It likely would be best to get it done before pick up to avoid any potential charges as they had to hook it up to their computer. Good luck.
I posted a set of instructions at the thread attached below, if you're having trouble with the locks maybe a different perspective may shed some light: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...54-customizing-lock-functions.html#post925229
Very clear. Thanks! Now, can you clarify switching the door unlock function? (p 48 in the manual) From the explanation, it would seem that in mode 1 (1 door open in the MID), I should be able to hold the driver's door and only that would unlock, but if I hold the passenger door handle or back door opener, it should unlock all the doors.... I can get it to switch modes, but I always have to use the driver's door to unlock one/all. It shows the "effective range" on page 47 as an area around all three doors, but mine seems only to work on the driver's door handle. I don't see where it says that this is an optional feature, but I have a Prius II if that makes a difference. Thanks! Robbin
The Prius II and III only have sensors on the driver's door, not the passenger door or the back door. The Prius IV and V have sensors on all three doors. That is why you can't unlock the door from the passenger's side by touching the door handle. You either have to use the key fob to unlock the door or go around to the driver's door to unlock them all.
