I went to my local dealership and they didn't have what I am looking for. So I asked to place an order or they call it SPECIAL ORDER. I told them what I want, and they just printed of a few sheets (MODEL COST SIMULATOR) with the model I want and options with the MSRP. They also gave me a sheet to fill up my contact info, so they can contact me when the car is here. I asked them do I need to pay a deposit because I heard people saying something like $500 deposit. They told me I don't have to pay for anything until the car comes or when they get the VIN number for the car I order. Does it sounds right? Do your get some kind of order number?
I did not get an order number or anything. I just got a piece of paper with the car features and the options I wanted. A week or so later, I received a call with the VIN when the dealer was allocated the car and we confirmed the options that were to be added at port. About a week and a half later, the dealer called me and I came down and bought it.
Oh,ok. I guess I am ok then, I was just afraid they thought I am BS-ing about buying the car, so they just pretending to order to car for me. I was going to ask another dealership, I guess I won't have to anymore. What kind of price did you get when you ordered the car? Did they charged you that CARPET fee for $220?
Yes, many of us here are reporting that we were 'forced' to buy carpeted or all weather mats. (Mine were all weather for $199). The list price seems to depend upon your region.
You can't order a car in the sense that Toyota will build one especially for you. You told the dealer what you want. They either have an exact match on the way or will try to get one. They may offer you other unsold cars as they arrive. The mats are an accessory you may be able to get the dealer to remove. So far everything looks good.
i asked to place special order at the Sterling Mccall Toyota dealership and they didn't ask for any deposit or anything. I think they thinks I am just playing around about buy the car. So I went to Fort Bend Toyota today and placed a order for my car and they asked me to put down $500 deposit. I told them I went to Sterling Mccall and ordered already, so they asked me do I want to get my deposit back from them. I told them they didn't ask for any, so they were like that means they didn't order it for you.
