HID lights are so expensive to replace that they are a major theft target on many cars (such as the Nissan Maxima). Are the LED headlights on the Prius V also much more expensive to replace after accident damage or theft than the standard headlights on the other models?
At this stage in the game, isn't that a question left dealt with between Toyota and your insurance company?
I think its merely a question of being curious. I too wonder if the LED lights are in actuality MORE expensive than the HIDs. I'm also wondering the longevity of LEDs as compared to HIDs. I think the LEDs will have a much longer lifespan.
The Japanese Toyota Parts supplier's price is 97,300 JPY for the single side of LED headlights. The life will be more than 15 years. Ken@Japan
Those prices will come down with time too. My insurance company seems to like the Prius V with AT better than the 330i with all sorts of things like HID lamps that turn around corners. My premium went down $50, even after adding new car replacement.
Wow, Johnny Cash would have a hard time building this car. Hard to believe (if you believe everyone estimates on batteries) that between the headlights and the battery you have $7000 of the total $29K of a Level V. Sounds like having Toyota piece this thing together for us saves a lot of money
