Does anyone know if the new alarm system offered as an accessory for the 2010 Prius besides sounding the alarm for a break in or broken glass, gives any additional protection then the engine immobilizer that already comes with the models? For instance Toyota advertises that the alarm system has a set of rolling codes? What does that mean anyway? Obviously, a pro is going to pull the car onto a truck and take it if they want the car bad enough. thanks Aljaedeker
As far as I know, it only adds the alarm noise if the glass is broken or a door or hood is forced open. The engine immobilizer is standard and unaffected. As you said a pro is going to get your car if they want it, so I passed on the alarm. The rolling codes are similar to those on modern garage door openers, so a person with a scanner can't capture your code and use it later.
