I have had a Deposit on a 2010 for a year. They told me it would be in any day. I got a call yesterday form the Saleman. He says are you sitting down. I think he is going to tell me my car is ready to be pick up. Instead he says you are not going to believe this. The car was wrecked when they were unloading it from the train car. Well it felt like someone had Sucker Punched me. I told him you mean I wait a year for my car.Toyota ships it all the way from Japan to Denver and you guys wreck it. He says well, we will we have to find you a new car. Well...... what I said next is something I regret today because I do not ever use that kind of language. It's must be because I am delirious with a fever. "THE PRUIS FEVER".
Was the car wrecked by someone at the dealership or some unknown vehicle handler? If the sooner then I would argue for some compensation for making you wait even longer. If the latter then there's no point in taking it out on the dealership. I'm sorry to hear that your wait has been extended. Perhaps that wasn't your car after all and the cosmos is aligning to ensure that you get the right one.
If they didi not show you a picture of that wrecked car with your VIN number, they lied and sold it to someone else.
The only upside is that it wasn't a IV w/SR or a V w/ATP. That would really make me cry as those cars are in short supply. They should be able to find you a II sooner rather than later. I feel your pain though. To be soooo close.
Did they give you the VIN? Is it reported as a salvage vehicle? If not, they are lying. They sold the car to someone who was either willing to pay more, or who they thought would not be willing to wait like you were. Demand your deposit back so you can buy from another dealer. -->Adam
I told him I think I had a good case to go to court and get compensation for "Pain and suffering". Is there a lawyer in the House I need an opinion. :typing:
It's insane - some cars cannot be sold at huge discounts.....Buyers have to wait months to get their Prius. Same as last Summer.Local paper is all hot yesterday - oooh, Toyota's Prius *might* be built at NUMMI, Fremont !!! O.K. (They currently make Tacomas, Corollas, Pontiac Vibes (looking to fill the GM short termer, which is really a Toyota))
As far as "waiting months" to get your Prius that is a somewhat misleading comment. They've only been out a month. Just because you put a deposit in a year ago shouldn't really count towards the "wait" time. Additionally there are 8 unsold Prii within 50 miles of me here in WV where dealers didn't get near the allotment as larger deallers. I can't imagine you can't just walk in and buy a Prius in most parts of the country and get it within a week or two from current unsold allocations arriving daily. Granted you may not get an AT package or sunroof, but the Prius is now available. I didn't even decide I wanted one until a month ago. I could have a IV next week but I'm waiting until after July 4th for my V package (already have the paperwork) Pain and Suffering? Compensation? I doubt it. Dealer lying? Possibly but I see no reason for them to make that up. I hope that I never get to the point where that is my first impression when I hear a story like this. Crap happens, deal with it. The dealer will work this out I'm sure.
Well in the city the there is a greater demanded and in a Green State like Colorado they are even in more demand. And as far as waiting. This car was suppose to come out last year in 2009 so I have been waiting to buy one for a year. I am sure there are Pruis that are not spoken. But in the big cities like Denver the blizzard pearl with dark grey interior is hard to get.
I agree. Once the cars are released (in this case 5/29 here) - that's the wait time. Funny = I have II's and III's available immediately. My III's with NAV are red, and I have several II's - black, red, white? At least we did last night before I left the store. The tougher cars to get - and ones everyone's awaiting are the sunroof cars or the V package cars. And, a few other III's in other colors...
Let's see, Last time I drove out that way it took me two days to drive. That's probably too much effort to get to WV where I sat in an unsold Blizzard Pearl last night. Fitzmall has about 30 Prii listed on their website right now unsold. I'd probably fly to DC or Baltimore and they will probably pick you up then you can drive across the country home as you test the car. Maybe C&D will pay you to do a review on your way back? They could use a good review by someone other than the morons they hired to drive the Prius they tested. Bottom line is I'm guessing within 3 hours of you there are probably a dozen unsold Prii on the lots.
If the dealer is really looking out for you, he's already done this search. I'd call right now to find out exactly what they are doing. They MUST be planning something within the Denver Region. Even if there is nothing available in your region, the dealer should be looking to make an arrangement for you even outside of your region. Of course, you may want to consider some sort of "explanation" for your verbal "outburst" upon the news.
I disagree with others who are trying to reset his "wait time" based upon when the Prius was released. Why not the day that Toyota started building it? Or the day it left the factory. One could play that game all day. Gofast had some level of emotional investment since the day that he made the deposit. And the closer the day came, the greater the emotional investment grew. We've all been there. Right? He's trying to explain his frame of mind over getting this bad news and his frustration. Unfortunately, it seems that he let the situation get the better of him and regrets his reaction. Now that he has taken the opportunity to reflect, maybe he can follow up with a call, or face-to-face meeting to discuss the next steps. If he has any reason to believe that they are being less than truthful, then he should take his business elsewhere. Why do business with someone you do not trust? If they are doing all that they can to make it right, then a sincere apology would be appopriate. I think the salesperson would appreciate the gesture.
Go down to the dealer and ask to see the wrecked Prius. If they won't let you see it , then it's a lie.
He stated that this occured coming off the train. If this is the case, then the dealer will not likely even get the car, as it was likely salvaged (depending on how bad 'wrecked' means). I imagine that there are incidents from time to time, but I would doubt that the car is totaled. I would ask to see it, or a picture of it, and if they claim not to have it, then so be it. I would be pissed too, but then would ask to be at the top of the wait list, after having them ensure that they cannot swap out with another dealer. They should be able to do this. I imagine that if true, the region may be able to help them get a similar car quickly by pulling a few strings. They CERTAINLY should be able to do that.
It sounds very fishy to me. BUT, if it is true I would use this to get as much free stuff as possible or say you will walk. I would shop elsewhere not matter what. Would you trust a dealership with your car for repair and service that can't even unload a car from a freight train? NOT ME
