Did anybody get the xzilon protection for their prius and is it worth it?

I have never heard of "xzilon" Is it a dealer added paint protection? If so, it is probably of very limited value to anyone but the dealer's bottom line.

No, use wax or other "normal" paint treatment. But wait a few months for the paint to fully cure. $699 is a total ripoff, perhaps the dealer wants to buy a new boat?

Even Zaino is less expensive that that stuff!

These paint & interior protection products are the modern day snake oil. It's insulting.

 

Did a search on Google for how soon you can wax a new car and the answer was " on a factory paint job as soon as it rolls out the factory door" the reason was the very high temps they use when applying the paint and curing it...no rubber or wire in the unit when it's painted. So they can cook the heck out of it. It's fully cured when it leaves factory. Not the same story on a local paint shop they cant use the very high temps because of the car being completed.

 

That's not necessary on modern paints which are baked after painting in the factory. I wax all my new cars as soon as I get them.

 

Honda dealership in Florida offers the Xzilon ( Inside and Out ) for $299.00. Got mine free with purchase of vehicle along with other goodies, but you can buy a can of it, apply it correctly ( Not too easy in my opinion ) for the outside of the car for about $35.00.

Some swear by it, others, specially the ones that do not have it, nor a clue if it really works or not, hate it..... Your choice.

 

I tend to agree that some of the stuff is garbage. Undercoating??? please. However, what you are really buying is not the chemicals itself and the labor to put them on, but the warranty. It is your checkbook. I'm not going to tell anyone that they have to buy it. I'm not going to say NOT to buy it. If you have the interior protection done, and spill a gallon of house paint in the back hatch, you will never get that clean. But, with some of the products offered, the warranty kicks in and you get all new carpeting, plastic panels, etc until there is no evidence of it being painted by accident.

Same with the paint protection. If you never wax a car, then it MIGHT be worth it based solely on Toyota's current warranty. If you have a problem with the paint after 2 years, Toyota won't do a darn thing. The warranty company that is associated with the products has to cover it.

Again, I am in no way advocating the product or the purchase of. I am simply stating that most of these companies put generic products out there and you are essentially buying the warranty on it.

 

I have had Xzilon on all of my vehicles. I get it because I am too lazy to polish my cars. The 5 year warranty has allowed me to get a vehicle completely redetailed and the Xzilon reapplied after 3 years. It looked like the car was brand new.

Xzilon as it has been mentioned here before is only as good as the people who are applying it. It does a great job of protecting the paint, but isn't worth it to people who love to polish and detail their cars. The high cost is mainly so that they can continue to provide you with warranty claim services for the 5 years.

Extreme example. My good friend had a bird poop that caused his paint to crack on the hood. Xzilon paid for his hood to be completely repainted which cost them $400. Then he was able to get waterspots removed (detailed his car) and xzilon reapplied. He still has about 2 years left of warranty.

Bottom line: If he didn't have the Xzilon the bird poop would have ruined his paint and he would have had to pay for the hood himself. If you don't like to polish the car and want to keep the paint looking shiny and car in good shape, get it. You do have to wash the car on a regular basis and take care of bird poop, tree sap, etc in a reasonable manner.

 

To be fair, he DID have the Xzilon, AND the bird poop DID ruin his paint. Xzilon did not protect his paint job, the guarantee did. I'm not saying, I just sayin'.

 

You are right. I am just telling you guys how the warranty works. The warranty is what makes it expensive. In my opinion, the product does help when caring for the car by making it easier to take off bird poop, tree sap, dead insects, etc.

You don't have to agree, or get it, but I will continue to get it on my cars. Our lot technicians also prefer cleaning cars with Xzilon because it is easier.

 

The only thing that these protective packages protect are the dealers profits. They are no better than waxing your car regularly with a high quality product or Scotch guarding the interior fabric which with the Alcantra like fabric used in the Prius is un-necessary as it cleans up quite nicely with just water. So JUST SAY NO!!

 

Playing devils advocate, as I have already stated my position on the chemicals....

If someone takes your advice FBear, and doesn't purchase it, can they call you at home to have you detail the car or possibly repaint a hood at no charge? What about getting that pesky dog poop out of the rear hatch carpeting? I didn't think so. Trust me, I have seen some VERY ugly stains that cannot be brought out by normal methods. Call the warranty company, order the new carpet pieces, and move on with my day. Again, that is what you are buying.

Of course there is dealer profit in it. Truthfully, as a salesman, if there wasn't an incentive in it for me, why on earth would I really sell it? I ask some people if they want it once. And only once. If they say no, I drop it, have them sign a copy of the Toyota warranty exclusion list and move on with my delivery. If you have a black or dark colored car, that is the only time I ask about it. If you have a white one (eglmainz), the paint won't show any problems anyway.

And any dealer that charges more than $1,000 for the whole thing is nuts. Our store does the same thing (called The Protector) for $897. That's interior, exterior, rust protection, undercoating, and rips and tears protection.

 

as consumers, we are offered extended or other warranties on many many things. tvs, washer dryers, stereos, cars, computers, furnaces, etc

i self-insure. i assume some things will break, and i am ok paying for those things, safe in the knowledge that in the long run i come out way ahead comparing the money NOT spent on warranties to the occasional outlay to fix something.

i have been offered extended warranties on items that cost as little as $39!!

Those are now disposable items. if it breaks outside the normal warranty (if any) then i replace it. the hassle of mailing etc is on balance not worth it
