Hello every one! Have had my used 2001 Prius for a little over a year now. 95,112 miles on her. Naturally love it! I live in Florida. Does anyone know how to check engine codes? My check engine light came on two days ago. I have never worked on these cars before. I have done all my work on all my other vehicles before. Motorcycles two stroke and four single and multis. Vans, trucks and yes even cars. Is it possible to check engine codes without buying one of those ScanGauges or other devices? Is there some sequence of buttons or throttle / ignition key routines we can use to check them with an existing indicator in the vehicle? Many thanks for any replies in advance! Karoo
Scan Gauge and other generic OBD-II devices will not reliably retrieve the DTC logged by your Prius because multiple ECUs can produce DTC. The best solution is for you to visit your Toyota dealer and pay for one hour of labor to determine DTC and propose a diagnosis. The next best solution is for you to buy a used Ecrostech miniscanner (if you can find one offered for sale) which will display DTC logged by the engine, hybrid vehicle, and traction battery ECUs. This is not a complete list of ECUs that might produce DTC but those three are the most likely to generate DTC of importance.
Hello, I have used my PC and ELM327 with ODBII free software (odb2crazy dot com ) It can address HV ECU, Battery ECU and another one (I can remember rightnow.)) I have the ATSH instruccions to query each one for DATA.. And this tool allows to scan from 01 to FF. I dont have my ODBII note book with me, where I have logged my findings.. If you are familliar with old TEXT modems, AT commands you will be able to figure it out quick.. So far, I have retrived my error code P3009, but no sub codes yet.. Have Fun,, j.
