The VIN of my V, that arrived at Jacksonville FL port Monday is: JTDKN3DU2A00001628 Assume the last 6 digits are the Plant Production Sequence. So mine would be the 1,628th 2010 (U.S. version I'd believe) assembled. Is that the case? I recall Rick J. mentioning that the #s of the prototypes they drove early this year were "in the 1000s". 1. I don't believe mfrs begin the sequence at 1. Seem to recall Toyota was 1,000 for new model years. I would have thought the line would have built more cars ahead of mine. Or is the sequence specific to Prius Model type - ie V. 2. The announced '1 per minute' being assembled on the one line at the plant for non-Japan units, my # '628' (assuming actual production units started at 1000) could have been produced on the second full production day, assuming one 8 hour shift/day. First impression..."Oh Oh". 3. Anything to be concerned about re quality or running changes being so early in a new Prius model? Especially considering running changes on the production lines...
I think you have the 1,628th 2010 Prius to be built. I would just look for fit and finish that early in the build. Often they have something that is not coming together as nice as they would like coming down the line. I noticed some gathering in the seat fabric in a photo of one car. It is little things like that. All the parts that run the car have been tested all the way to failure. I am sure they have run that engine at full throttle for hours on end trying to brake it. I would look for fit and finish. Dan
My VIN# is 00023xx (hiding the last two digits), and my production date says 05/09. When you say below 3000, is yours higher than mine, in the 2,300's? If so, that would indicate that the 'serial' numbers may or may not be in sync with the actual schedule? Can some of you post your A000023xx serials and dates? (you can all leave the last two digits off for some security, if desired). I am curious to see if we, as the fanatics of the car, can determine how many they built in April Versus May? Anyone game?
The VIN of my V, that arrived at Jacksonville FL port Monday is: JTDKN3DU2A00001628 The number after A (which designates the model year = 2010) is the plant code (there is more than one plant building Prius), so yours is number 1,628 for plant 0 (mine was build at plant 1, which is Toyota Tsutsumi). Thanks very much for this info! I don't seem to recall the "0" for other Prius VINs I've seen provided on here. I thought the U.S. Prius was made only on one line at the Tsutsumi plant. Yes / No? edit/update - I now see several '10 Prius with a '5'...confused... example JTDKN3DU3A5003908 This said I JUST got the call while reading your reply. My V is on the truck from the Port, and will be delivered to my dealer tomorrow and ready for pickup Saturday. Slight problem - I'm paying cash, and the funds are being shifted and I won't be able to get a cashier's check cut until early next week. So either the dealer will trust me to pay up (!!!) or wait till next Sat to pick her up.
I've seen VINs for US cars that have plant codes of 0, 1 and 5. So it appears there's more than one plant making US cars.
DeanFL, I paid with a personal check without a problem. They run a credit check on you and as long as you have good credit, there shouldn't be a problem. Just verify it with your dealer
When paying with cash, most dealers (in CA at least) have you sign a retail installment sale contract, which says you owe the money. If your check bounces, you still own the car--and owe the money, with a late payment penalty. I once bought a car over the memorial day weekend, and needed to transfer funds to my money market account the following Tuesday, and the dealer said no problem, they wouldn't cash the check for a few days.
I never gave my social and they never ran a credit check. I did print out a copy of the online running balance sheet from my bank account should they want verification. They didn't seem to need it. All they really needed is what they referred to as a "5 line" on their general contract. No installments listed, just a purchase contract.
That's exactly what the dealer will do. And unless someone hijacked my credit recently, I'm be trekking back home with my red V Sat afternoon. On the other point - 3 lines pumping out U.S. Prii... Does anyone know of the other two plants beside Tsutsumi, which I guess is designated 1 on the VIN.
Dean, Strange, mine is 00023xx, it was built 4/09 and it arrived in Jacksonville 5/26/09 on the Kentucky Highway shipment. Yours must have just "missed the boat".
Vincent - Missing the boat - story of my life. Not really. I'm getting exactly the car I wanted at a fair price quicker than I expected. So your 23XX - How's the quality & fit/finish?
I know that you are not asking me, but my 23xx fit and finish are perfect! I have not yet found one issue with F it and Finish on this car... but then, it's only been a week.
I have access to literally 1000's of vins. The only logical thing I can come up with is it has to do with the factory AND the exterior color. Example: 6A10090xx is sitting on the ground right now. Package II in black. 6A10093xx is on a train on it's way to a dealer now. Package II in black. 6A10047xx has been on the ground for the last 6 days. Package II in black. Just to really throw a curve ball into this, I give you one last piece of info: 6A10006xx hasn't reach the dealer yet. But it is Sandy Beach in color. I'll keep looking to see if any other anomolies pop up like that. EDIT: Scratch that above info. I just found a sandy beach, vin #6A10026 that has been on the ground since 6/2. BTW, the 6 in the above references refers to the check digit in the VIN to make sure it isn't a fake.
OK--falling under the category of too much information--here's what the VIN stands for: For example: JTDKN3DU8A1001234 J = geographic area & country = Japan T = manufacturer = Toyota D = vehicle type = passenger vehicle K = body type/driver type = 5dr sedan 2WD N = engine family 3 = restraint system/grade D = series = ZVW30 (Prius) U = car line = Prius 8 = check digit (used to verify VIN) A = model year = 2010 1 = plant code = Toyota Tsutsmi 001234 = serial number
Glad you didn't take "missing the boat" personally. Fit and Finish are excellent, just like my 2006 Prius. The handling, road noise level and overall feel of the 2010 Prius is very improved over the 2006 model. The dash layout is very logical and easy to master. There are a lot more buttons to learn now that the center display is no longer standard. Even with Navigation, there are fewer controls handled on the display. You WILL enjoy your new Prius.
