Ok, I have decided to buy a old 2001 model (108k miles) Toyota prius. But I heard often Toyota Prius batteries go bad after 200k miles. So, I want to buy a battery package in advance in case something happens, but I don't want to pay $3k for the new battery package. I heard that I can get salvage battery from somewhere. So, I would like to know what kind of batteries Toyota Prius (2001 model) has (name specific please like 12v battery,Lithium Ion, etc)? What should I search for in order to buy those salvage batteries? If I can find those batteries from ebay or amazon, what should I search for? Where can I find those batteries(websites or somewhere else)? How much would it take to get the salvage battery including labor??
It wont let me post a link, but on ebay, search for prius battery -04 -2004 Many are selling individual cells, but there are some complete batteries under $1400
I just found out that Prius has two main batteries Hybrid Nicad and regular 12-v battery. But what are HV and LV batteries? Can I replace those batteries in regular maintenance shops or I have to go to toyota dealer??
Ok, I have decided to buy a old 2001 model (108k miles) Toyota prius. But I heard often Toyota Prius batteries go bad after 200k miles. So, I want to buy a battery package in advance in case something happens, Weak idea. You need to keep the battery charged while it sits on the shelf. A couple years from now when you (hypothetically) need it, it will be too dead to use. They are a pain to charge up outside the car. I heard that I can get salvage battery from somewhere. eBay works for me. The battery usually survives a wreck. You can advertise on places like this. So, I would like to know what kind of batteries Toyota Prius (2001 model) has (name specific please like 12v battery,Lithium Ion, etc)? The big one is called the "Traction Battery" It is a 274-volt Nickel-Metal Hydride. It's used to turn the wheels. It is the size of a coffee table and lives in back of the rear seat. The little one is a plain old lead-acid 12 volt battery. It runs the headlights, the computers, and the radio. It's a little small and has a vent tube, but is otherwise not that different from any other car battery. If I can find those batteries from ebay or amazon, what should I search for? Prius +Battery, then subsort for '01 through '03 The battery changed for '04. How much would it take to get the salvage battery including labor?? Just browse through completed sales on ebay. You'll see how much they're going for right now. Pay attention to shipping cost, they're heavy. The labor part will be the install. But what are HV and LV batteries? Abbreviation for High Voltage (274) and Low Voltage (12) I suppose the key fob would count as RLV (Really Low Voltage) Can I replace those batteries in regular maintenance shops or I have to go to toyota dealer?? The little battery, anywhere. Replace it yourself if you want. For the traction battery phone around, see what's up in your area. I don't reccomend doing the traction battery yourself.
In addition to ebay, google salvage vehicle dismantlers to get addresses for all of LKQ Online's competitors. Contact them for price and condition of the thing you want. The HV battery assembly part # is G9510-47020, and they might be impressed if you know that
I am interested. I need one for my 2001 Prius. Could you email me directly please? Thanks... [email protected]
