Can non-Bluetooth phones be connected to Prius by wire?

As easily as wired phones can be connected by BlueTooth.

There are no wired sockets in the Prius, other than the 12V accessory outlet, that are meant for driver connection.

Your question doesn't make sense to me. What are you trying to accomplish?

I saw a picture on John's website that showed a phone wired directly to the nav screen. Beside it was a picture of a phone transmitting to the nav screen. I wondered if there was a connection method that would allow useage of a non-Bluetooth phone in the Prius, dial numbers using the screen, speakers, etc.

The Nav system BT isn't that great to begin with. Better to get a speaker/cradle that plugs into the power outlet if your phone isn't BT. The only thing you wouldn't have is automatic audio muting when using the phone.

You also wouldn't have the speakers in the car and the voice commands would you?

With the BC package you get Nav, BT phone, and Voice (semi)Recognition. If you have a BT mobile phone paired to your Prius (you can have up to 6 I think), when you are not in motion you can dial from the MFD screen. Other threads discuss the ease or difficulty in uploading a phone book to the car, but you can only use the phonebook or touch-screen buttons when stopped. When you use the mobile phone, dialing from the phone if the car is in motion, the audio system will be muted.

The speaker for the BT is the same one the little lady speaks through, down by the driver's feet, and the sound is a little bass and muffled. The phone conversation is not through the audio system speakers. The BT mic is the same one by the lights used to amuse yourself by trying to give voice command. (You say, "POI off", she says, "Showing bank icons.")

BT mobiles are the wave of the now, making them easy to connect to computers to sync phonebooks and to headsets for hands free operation.

If you want to convince yourself to get one, remember that BT is low power and spread-spectrum, so the amount of microwave energy going into your head and body from the Prius or a headset is MUCH lower than when you're holding your mobile up next to your brain. I put my phone in the cup holder so I can look at the caller ID easily.

Not true. The phone numbers that you have set up on the one touch screens work all the time (I think there are 24 numbers you can use that way). If you entered them from the phonebook then the names appear and can be used even when the car is in motion.

Hmmm... When I'm moving the 1-touch are blank. When I stop, the number (only) shows up. Are you sure?

I know that the first button is my home, so I can press the blank #1 button to call home when I'm moving, but there is no visual indication of the content.

I am positive. How did you get the numbers into the one touch screen? If it was from the outgoing or incoming logs then there is no name and nothing will show up on the one touch dial, as you are experiencing. If you selected them from the phonebook and they had a name attached then the name stays on in the one touch dial although the number disappears when moving.

By the way, even though you have no names and nothing is showing up, you can still poke the screen and it will dial if you can remember which box has which number. It is much easier when you select from the phonebook for the phone touch dial and it has names attached to the number to start with.

Our one touch buttons are available when in motion. If they are set up from the phone book they have the names shown. If they are from the phone log of previous dialed numbers, they only have the number.
