First Post, 2010 Prius Buyer now Awaiting Delivery Hello Everyone, Here goes my first post. I'm a Mechanical Engineer living in West Fargo, ND. I currently drive a 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT 5-Speed and am probably going to purchase a 2010 Prius III in the next week. If anyone wants to know anything else about me, please ask. Edit: I ordered a Blizzard Pearl 2010 Prius III on 10 June, details are here. Kris
I am leaning towards the III mostly because it has the features I think that I'd use most, mainly the Bluetooth integration and the satellite radio. The upgraded sound system is a plus as well. I like the IV package (in fact that's the one package I've been able to test drive) but I think the additional $2,800 is more than I want to spend for mostly leather and heated seats. I'm planning on going to the dealership tonight to see if they can locate a III for me to dealer trade. When I talked to them last night they said that they can usually locate a car and have it there within 2-3 days. Any recommendations as to the color? Kris
Kris, Welcome!! As for color, The Lighter The Color the less washing. If you don't mind washing, Than Barcelona Red.
Is the Blizzard Pearl worth the $220 premium over the Classic Silver Metallic? I'm not really a fan of the Sandy Beach Metallic, but all of the others seem OK. Kris
Absolutely. It's a phenomenal color in bright sunlight and it hides light to moderate dirt very well (except road oil/tar). One of my more provocative Blizzard Pearl shots - see the "2010 Photos" link in my sig for more.
I second Spinnr's vote. I went over ours with a "fine tooth comb" when I detailed the car and applied Rejex. The next day was full sun and the depth and clarity was outstanding. I do NOT recommend bisque interior. The seats and door panels are bisque and everything else including the headliner is misty grey except for black (or charcoal) floor mats.
Front of the car, passenger side with the hood up. Yes. $220 is the cheapest extra cost paint you're gonna find. There's also power lumbar support for the driver, auto-dimming mirror with Homelink integrated garage door opener, 3-Dr Smart Key (the III only has it on the driver's door) and water-repellent front glass (minor detail)
Well, I stopped by the dealer this evening and am now awaiting arrival of my new 2010 Prius III in Blizzard Pearl. Out the door price excluding Tax, Title, and License came out to $24,504. The breakdown: $23,000 - MSRP $220 - Blizzard Pearl Paint Charge $200 - Carpeted Floor Mats (For Summer) $0 - All Weather Floor Mats (For Winter, I got them to throw this on for no additional cost) $750 - Destination $149 - Document and Administration Fee $185 - 5-year key replacement, lockout protection, and roadside assistance ND Car taxes are 5% which I will have to pay when I register the vehicle All in all it was a pleasant experience. I emailed the vehicle I wanted to my salesman and that evening when I arrived he had found the vehicle about to arrive at a dealer in the Twin Cities. Now to wait for it to be trucked up to Fargo... EDIT: The dealer-trade fell through on this car, but I found another one and bought it. Post #20 of this thread has the details. Kris
Thanks for the price breakdown. It's helping me put the spreadsheet together for the Prius III that I'm purchasing. How many remote key fob did you get with the Prius before purchasing the replacement plan? I haven't lost (just temporarily misplaced) any car keys with any of the three cars that I've owned but I'm sure losing the remote key would be more common. Also, if I have AAA membership already, is the roadside assistance worth it? Less than two weeks to go until delivery date. -PLCEHOB
As Tideland said, right front of my 2010 Prius IV viewed over the front headlight with the hood open (hence the hood prop). The other "pole" is a light pole in the distance. The intent is to show the Blizzard Pearl color in direct sunlight. It's a 3 coat paint with metallic and a pearl coat, hence the additional cost.
I talked to the dealer today and it looks like early next week (15 June?) it should arrive in Fargo. I'm getting antsy. Kris
Arrival has been pushed back until Saturday (20 June). By the way, is there any way I can change the title of this thread to change my status from potential buyer to awaiting delivery? Kris
Kris, My wife graduated from undergrad in Moorehead, MN... so I know how miserable cold it gets there in the winter. I would re-think upgrading to heated leather seats if I were you... just my opinion.
I actually went to Minnesota State University in Moorhead for my first year of college, then transferred to North Dakota State University across the river in Fargo. I talked to the dealer and they can add heated seats, $300 for just the driver or $550 for driver and passenger. These also have a high and low setting vs the on/off of the package IV and V seats. The aftermarket guy said he had already installed heated seats for someone with a 2010 Prius the day I ordered mine, so I think that's the route I'm going to take. Kris
So I talked to my dealer today about what time my Prius III was going to arrive on Saturday. He told me that the dealer they were trying to dealer-trade with was not willing to go through with the trade. However, last night they received a Prius IV in Blizzard Pearl with no packages. I told them I might be interested, if they were willing to negotiate a little on the price. After a few phone calls we were able to agree on a price and I am now the proud owner of a 2010 Blizzard Pearl Prius IV! Total came to $27,134. Here's the breakdown: $25,800 - 2010 Prius IV $220 - Blizzard Pearl Charge $200 - Carpeted Floor Mats $51 - Cargo Net $0 - All-Weather Mats (Got the dealer to throw these in) $750 - Destination Fee $149 - Document Fee $185 - 5-Year Replacement and Roadside Assistance -$221 - Negotiated Price Difference $27,134 - Total Price without Tax, Title, and License Kris
