The dealer is asking me to pay $26,227(tax, registration included). This is the basic 2010, the only cheap options I included are these: Package II, Blizzard Pearl color($220), floor mats, tinting(I am in Arizona)+ paint protection($450). Do you think I should cancel the deal??? I just saw that other people are paying $2000 less Thanks, John
If that includes tax, then that is about right, esp. considering your options. We are paying $23, 656 for our base II including port-added vehicle shield package ($349), tinting ($299), and carpet mats (I think $200). With TT&L I expect another ca. $2,000, bringing the total close to yours (I suspect your options are a little more, bringing about the difference in price). Check the base price before the add-ons (should be $22,750) and make sure they aren't adding any add'l mark-up fees. Best of luck!!
Without knowing what your taxes are, it's hard to say. I would not pay a dime more than MSRP, no dealer markup, but you can't avoid destination charges, taxes or registration. In some areas, it is already possible to get small discounts over MSRP, but in most areas probably not. I don't know what AZ is like in that respect.
For Prius II, I am paying 22000 + 750 + 200 doc fee plus 6% sales tax plus $20 title - TOTAL 24800 No other fees; MSRP price
Basically the dealer charged me $22000 for MSRP, not markup, no discount. Arizona charges 8.5% in tax. I am not sure of the brand of tint I am getting, the salesman mentioned something like "legal tint", with some warranty. If it peels off, they will replace it. Here is the exact breakup: $23,602=22000(MSRP)+750(Shipping)+450(Tint,paint protection)+220(Color Primium,Blizzard Pearl)+200(Mats) $1840.96=Taxes $385.75=Reg 399 = Doc Total = 26,227.71 John
Technically, this a modern euphemism for 'markup'. Unfortunately, nearly all dealers are using it now.
John, this past week I just purchased my car from Avondale Toyota from Chuck Newman, the sales manager. Their doc fee is $349, the sales tax rate is 7.8%, and they won't tack on the $450 for tint/paint protection. That would save you about $600. I'm having my tint (Solartek HP) done for $140 by an experience guy here in town. I was just down there today getting my cargo net fixed (bad port install). Chuck said that he's getting a good allocation of cars in the coming month. Good luck and let us know how you do.
Here in southern Ca I just paid $22,997 for a pkg 2, which includes dealer prep/destination charge, carpet mats, wheel locks, first aid kit, cargo net, but is before tax and license. After tax and license the total was about $25,300.
OK, I just got a buyer's order from a dealer outside of my immediate area but within a reasonable drive. He's quoting me $24108 before TT&L for a Package II. Good golly Miss molly how did he get there? He must be drinking the happy punch 'cause it ain't happening! Like my boss likes to say, "spit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first!"
2010 Prius II, fabric, without extras $22,000 MSRP + 200 floor mats (i HATE paying for those. SCAM!) + 750 transfer ============ 22,950 +740.16 for VA state tax + Dealers License Tax +399.00 for processing fee (SCAM!) +49.50 Title fee ============ $24,138
Ahh, thank you. That's seriously more info then he gave me. Let's see if he can come up with the same numbers. Sounds like his quote of $24108 BEFORE TT& L is a complete dream on his part, if I understand your post correctly.
i posted this in another thread, but maybe it will be helpful here too. this is what i was basically quoted from my dealer in MD:
It seems like your cost quote is about right. In Hawaii, just bought one June 9, 2009. DEALER MARKUP $3K. It really peeved us, as when we bought our 2004 Toyota wasn't allowing markups on the Prius, and this seemed high relative to car. But it all goes to supply and demand. We see see 4 or 5 or Prius on any drive-about. Our gas is currently $3.17.
Going to echo what dbacksfan said. Go talk to Chuck Newman @ Avondale Toyota - MSRP w/o any forced dealer add-ons like paint protection, etc. I think you'll find they come in cheaper. Don't confuse port installed options that come w/ the car for forced dealer options that dealers add to improve profit (though both have profit built into them).
