Drove 2010 Prius This Morning. Impressions.

All this talk about the cheap interior, maybe it is. But who cares when you have the most advanced hybrid system out there. I switched from a 2001 VW Passat with beautiful wood trim and good plastics. My new 2010 Prius is definately built to more of a budget, but I won't be shelling out $500 ever 3-6 months for repairs. The one question I need answered is what is the cloth interior in my Prius III?

 

I would hope not since every dealer I spoke with offered to change the III seats to leather. Subject to checking, I am going to use someone many of our dealers use, but direct, to have more control, less hands, and save a few hundred dollars.

 

Funny, I didn't think anything was cheap in the interior except for the crappy NAV screen and I'm used to Lexus. I've heard complaints that dark gray is drab and monotone though so maybe that's a factor?

 

They make a lot of money on leather installs and the dealer isn't responsible for anything that goes wrong with airbag deployment, so of course they want to sell it to you.
The leather vendors will tell you it is safe and that they designed them to work with the airbags, but there is no one who will take responsibility for anything that goes wrong if the airbag deploys in a different way than the manufacturer intended because of the new seat covers.
