Did a search ... nothing. So strange this topic has vanished. So .... Fuel tank bladder or not? I saw something flexible around filler neck.
Thanks. That's a good thing. Obviously, I recall this was a big issue and worth putting 'front and center' in a thread.
You might try a better search: [ame="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=2010+bladder&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=10&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=priuschat.com&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=any&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images"]- Google Search[/ame] Tom
I filled up at 2 pips and got < 9 gallons in. I'm thinking the new fuel gauge is adjusted in such a way that we're less likely to run out.
I thought I read that it had a 13.5 gallon fuel tank? I'll have to check that. Oops it's 11.9 gallons according to the manual.
run it nearly dry next time. You can be the first guinea tester for this lol. i assume it will fill over 11 gal if you let it run pretty close to bone dry let's us know the result.
Back in the early heady days of the 2004, there were crazy people that deliberately ran their cars dry, just to see what would happen. Since smarter people than me have pointed out that can hurt both your fuel pump and your batteries, I think I'll put that on the list of things not to test, right along with the collision avoidance!
If people are still only getting 9.5 gallons in the tank when the gauge is flashing its warning then we are in for another rash of threads about how you can't fit 11.9 gallons in the tank so people have to visit a gas station 3 more times in their lifetime, oh my god, Nooooo!!
Except this time, 9.5 gal is right. We'll have better answers to the "how many miles on the blinking pip?" because there's no bladder.
Hello, I am new here but I have been searching for the same answer/issue. I ran my first tank down until about half a gallon left and I filled up an only got 9.5 gallons. I thought it was odd because at 12 gallons I expected a fuel range of 600 miles and I'm only able to get 500. The main annoyance is that I'm told it is supposed to be one thing but I'm getting something else.
What is happening is that display tells us it is 'empty' when in reality it has about two gallons left inside. If you were to drive at 50 MPG, and use all 12 (11.9) gallons, you would get closer to 600 miles per tank. However, if you play it safe, and fill it when the range displays '0' miles to empty, you will be able to fill only about 10 gallons into the tank. Annoyed me at first, but actually think it is like a 'hidden reserve' tank, where most drivers will fill up every 10 gallons or so. At the end of the year, you will use as many gallons, but will make about 1/6th more trips to 'top off' the tank.
2010 Prius III with Navi. I filled up at half tank indicated. Slow pump speed on the first notch took 5.035 when it clicked off. I than continued to fill it to the very top of the neck where you could not get any more fuel in or it would spill on the ground. The pump than stated 7.373 gallons. So I believe the 2010 Prius will hold over 11.9 gallons based on all the info I have heard. Alfon
