As the outside temps have been increasing this spring, I have been having an issue where I need to keep pressing the start button to get the ready to come on. It is intermitent. Sometimes on the first push, sometimes 20 pushes. Anyone have ideas?

Be sure your foot is firmly on the brake before you push the button

Don't push too quickly. Try pushing it and holding it for just one sec.

Have you received a notification from Toyota about the brake light switch TSB? If not you may want to check to see if your car falls within the range listed in the TSB.

I believe one of the symptoms of a malfunctioning brake light is the start button not working. If the problem's intermittent, the car will eventually start once the switch starts working.

I sometimes get the Ig-On lockup, but after powering off and back on, no more troubles for a while.

The brake light TSB was the solution. Don't know why I wasn't notified, but the Toyota dealer replaced the switch, and haven't had a problem since. Thanks for all the feedback!

I still have some testing to do, but I think I may have found the cause of Ig-On hang: SKS and immobilizer.

When I was fixing my mower, I had my car in ACC for the radio. I wondered if the car could be brought to READY mode without the fob if it was already in ACC or even in Ig-On.
Moved the fob out of range, and tried to get into READY by pressing the brake and then pressing power. It went to Ig-On, but would not go to ready, also the immobilizer indicator was flashing. Having the fob still would not go from Ig-On to READY. Had to power off first.

A co-worker drove his Acura TL and I parked next to him. We just happened to be leaving at the same time and we just happened to be facing driver-to-driver. We got into our cars and his cranked up.

I rolled down my window and he rolled down his. I punched the (POWER) button and started my car while asking him what that hideous noise was that just came from his car. Of course he laughed and I said, "I'd forgotten what that sounded like." ;-)

In my head, I saw myself stealthing away while he smiled and shook his head. What happened was an Ig-On lockup and I sat there fumbling to fix the situation. By then, of course, not only had the spontaneity worn off, he was gone.
