Buy a TerraPass and help fund projects to reduce industrial CO2 emissions. See http://www.terrapass.com/ A background article in the LA Times: http://tinyurl.com/3t66d
Looks good. Pretty cheap too for hybrid owners (29.95). Of course not all hybrids are created equal so they may want to adjust their categories a bit.
Awesome, thanks for the link! I will be joining up this Friday, it's a great idea to help do more! Their website also has me looking into buying green electricity from my 'local' power company. -m.
I really like this idea. It is business driven and offers help to those businesses that have better environmental choices to take the more expensive route but be more environmentally responsible. Personally, I hope there will be many more wind turbins in the US where possible.
My window sticker just arrived: [Broken External Image]:http://img240.echo.cx/img240/3840/terrapass3wp.jpg Yay for zero net CO2 emissions! arty:
I just heard of this and it seems like an awesome idea. Let me get this straight, there is an emissions "stock" exchange so to speak? And the more emissions that are purchased by the general public, the less emissions are allowed by power plants and/or the more expensive it is to buy emissions. How do we know if they're following the rules?
Good question. The US does not yet have a mandated CO2 exchange, and it appears that Terrapass aren't trading under the European Union CO2 exchange (the EU Emissions Trading Scheme or ETS). Their website does show a list of transactions on private exchanges and funding for some CO2 reduction projects.
Looks like Terra Pass is getting a big plug in a movie coming out later this year... http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/07/ne...george_cloo.php
