I just came back from test driving the new Prius that I have been waiting for quiet a while. Although the test-drive model was indeed Prius III with sunroof, I am told that this is not available for sale in Nor-Cal (for rental/lease fleet only) Did anyone have this issue? Can anyone tell if Prius III with sunroof is available at any dealer here in Nor-CA Thanks
Not all combinations are available in all regions at launch, but it has been said that this may change at a later time. Whether or not that combo is available or not where you live I am not certain. Try going to the toyota.com website and use the build tool for the 2010 prius and see if it shows that you can get a Prius III with the roof option. That's an easy way to find out real quick...
Ok, I just tried it with the zip 95652 which was where McClellan AFB was in Sacramento when I was stationed in Cali... It shows that only the Prius IV is available with the solar roof option or just the plain nav option. It shows that the Prius III is available only with the nav option... No solar option at all on a Prius III...
Nope No sunroof for SF bay area with Prius III. That sucks... It feels like Toyota is forcing leather seats down my throat just because I want sunroof.. I simply love sun/moon roofs and don't want it because of the solar thing that they are providing but I cannot tolerate smelly leather... Any ideas folks what should I do???
Although the III/solar-roof is not supposed to be available, one came up when I did an inventory search of 2010 Prii at Bay Area dealers. It was at a dealer in San Jose (I forget if it was Capital or Piercey). It had a light-colored interior and my spouse insists on charcoal grey.
Thanks for the tip!!! BTW Sunnyvle Toyota also has few IIIs with roof but they say it's for lease fleet and allow to test drive but not for sale :-(
how can you do an inventory search of the dealers? is there a central location, or do you have to go dealer website by dealer website?
I've been going dealer by dealer. Edmunds.com now has an inventory searcher, but it didn't clearly identify the style & packages.
Thanks to "son of aeneas", I found one Blizzard pearl PIII with sunroof at Piercy Toyota, --- I did an inventory search on their (piercy) website. my DH is calling them right now
You can go the next state over and get it.... I cant see Cali's build, but the Denver Region you can. There are 95 being built this month for the 5 state region
I just looked on Cali to see what I could see for Sunroof...There isnt a dealer 408 miles from Phoenix that has one listed.. Unfortunately I cant see NorCal from here. Hope this helps someone. Reno is getting two or Utah is the other closest to Norcal
It's a bummer that CA isn't ordering this combination YET. I use YET as a really obvious word. Understand that for most of us, the car's been out for just 1-2 weeks. Till the regions are aware that they need a different combination ordered or thinned, they won't make changes. If cars with sunroof fly off the lots but cars with no extras stay around a while, they will make changes accordingly. I was SO lucky Memorial Day weekend... a member here at PriusChat wanted a III with sunroof (white with tan cloth) and I managed to get it for him via PORT trade with an out of state dealer. It happens so rarely that we run into the right car at the right port and a willing manager to do a trade out of state... I got lucky, and admit it. It may happen again, but heck who knows. It was one of those one in a million lucky star moments. If you get really frustrated, email me. I don't blame you for not wanting leather. I understand!
I spoke to the manager of the Northeast region today (and got to check out his car, a very nice dark grey V). He said that only 10% of the cars were being made with sunroofs due to a shortage in some part. Given that, it's understandable if they only put them on IV's until the shortage is over.
I'm sorry - I disagree. It may take an actuary or engineeer to do this math, but... If sunroof is available on III and IV, and certain regions do not get III's with sunroofs because they have chosen not to, then it stands to reason that less cars would have sunroofs there. I also wish to add that only 33% can have sunroof/Nav combo due to the car's weight and the EPAS restrictions with mileage and weight factors. I hope this makes sense. And, since the cars have been out for only a week or two... and many of the pre-orders for the "pioneers" and celebrities were cars they already build in short supply (sunroof cars + AT package cars) then it would thin that herd too! That would be me :-D Not sure if I owe it to clean living, good karma, or Dianne's mastery of the system. On second thought, it's gotta be the last one. Where in tarnashin is that ship, Eminent Ace, anyway?
