Ok this is trivial, but I read somewhere that there is some type of radar or ultrasonic sensor in the cabin? What type of sensors (besides glass breakage) does this thing have? The VIP instructions are vague.
Only cabin sensor is the optional Glass Breakage Sensor that works by sound. If you add VIP because you had 'no alarm', what you really get is extra priced GBS, and instructions on how to remove a wire and activate the already available alarm. Bad Toyota ploy. If you don't need GBS, the alarm could be turned on, supposedly without having to remove the yellow wire.
Thnx. I guess I am confused. Does the VIP option alone come with the GBS? I tapped the glass moderately with a key (per the instructions) and nothing triggered. I am assuming I should have asked for a GBS in addition to the Rs3200. 250 bones for a stripped down alarm, what a rip. I guess it is my own darn fault for not doing my homework.
I asked my dealership the same question. I was told the GBS is an add on to the VIP. The VIP alone does not come with the GBS.
Yellow wire? Please elaborate for those of us who do not have the alarm activated already. Any info would be much appreciated.
My understanding is that VIP is GBS with the added instructions to enable the alarm. In other words, the VIP is the GBS install instructions with added steps to enable the alarm. Part of what you paid for was the GBS. I have the alarm packaged with the car, so I don't have the yellow wire to deal with, but Kyle I believe said the plug where the yellow wire mentioned in the install instructions was B6 where the instructions calls it JP16 I think. If you do not care about the GBS, and if the dealer (or tech) is in friendly terms with you, they should be able to activate the alarm without touching the yellow wire. VIP installation is summarized as follows:\ 1. Install GBS 2. Remove yellow wire from plug in driver Junction Block. 3. Use Scan Tool to enable alarm. 4. Use Scan Tool to enable GBS If you have alarm and only add GBS, only steps 1 and 4 are done. Steps 2 and 3 are not needed.
thanks DanMan. don't know if the dealer\tech people would cooperate around here. worth a try, though.
