In the 2010 owners manual (I downloaded from TIS www.techinfo.toyota.com ), there's a customizable features sections, with a bunch of items--here's some that caught my eye to be changed when I take delivery (the dealer needs to make these changes): Shift-linked auto door lock (when shifter is moved from P) and unlock (when shifted into P) are standard, but can be set to off. Reverse warning buzzer is set to beep repeatedly when shifting into R, but can be set to beep once. Seat belt reminder (speed linked) is set to ON, but can be set to OFF. It's well worth the $10 (1 day fee) to download owners manual, nav manual, new car features, install instructions, service info, etc.
Best part is these can be done by the end user. ;-) The door lock/unlock can be enabled/disabled, and there are two enabled modes. One is shift linked locking (default), the other is speed triggered locking. Unlocking can be park linked (default) or driver's door open linked.
I think the dealer needs to do this, at least according to the first paragraph of customizable features section of the owners manual: Your vehicle includes a variety of electronic features that can be personalized to your preferences. Programming these preferences requires specialized equipment and may be performed by an authorized Toyota dealership. And the repair manual says the following: CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS 1. CUSTOMIZING FUNCTION WITH TECHSTREAM HINT: The following items can be customized. NOTICE: When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that the function can be customized. Be sure to make a note of the current settings before customizing. When troubleshooting a function, first make sure that the function is set to the default setting. (a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. (b) Turn the power switch on (IG). (c) Turn the Techstream on. (d) Enter the following menus: Customize Setting. (e) Select the setting by referring to the table below.
Some features are dealer only, but I assure you the door lock/unlock can be done by the end user. The owner's manual does go on to mention a power/shift sequence used to set the lock/unlock feature. You'll find it on Page 69 (Section 01-03). There's also a sequence to set how SKS functions (driver's vs. all doors), found on page 48 (Section 01-02).
Good catch on the door lock/unlock! I hadn't gotten that deep into the owners manual. I knew about the SKS--saw it in one of the Toyota YouTube vids. Any idea about reverse warning buzzer (switch to beeps once), and seat belt reminder (switch to off)? Are those end user settings?
When u downlad the maunal for $10, is it ez to read, just liek cover to cover on the manual we will get or is it a bit more cmplicated and have to cut and paste download?
Most docs on the TIS site (including the owners manual) are PDF, broken down into several documents. The owners manual is about 3 dozen docs, which you download separately. No big deal.
I was able to change the setting to unlock all doors today (thank you HTMLspinnr), but what about reverse beep, headlight turn-off delay, cabin lignt turn-off delay, cancel auto lock all together and all the other customizable features. I hope there's an end user alternative to the dealers TECHSTREAM device. Can the TECHSTREAM disable the Navigation and Telephone lock-outs?
I had my dealer change the reverse beep today, just took a few minutes and was free. Would be useful however to know if there is an end-user accessible way of making some of these customizations. If you think your dealer service dept. would try to charge you for this, I suggest that new purchasers decide up front which customizations they want at delivery and have that a condition of purchase, I can guarantee any dealer would agree to that in an instant.
