Like high school bands? College bands? I saw a good movie tonite called Drumline. It is about a boy from harlem going to a university and joining the band getting in the drum line. I missed the first half hour but got right into it. Will have to rent it and play thru the home theater system. I was in the high school band and loved it. We played at Kings Island, marched in the Indy 500 parade (downtown Indy ), Pumpkin Show parades ( local festival, check out their website ) and many contests. Was a lot of work at times but had a ball. Miss those times,
I remember that movie (worked at a video store for 6 years...) It was a lot of fun. Made the common band geek look like a real person And it had a good story line. I highly recommend it.
Rick- I played tenor sax in high school (Campbellsport Wisconsin) and college (Marquette U.) bands. College was a blast. At that time, Marquette played football in Division I and we got to play in some of the big stadiums like Camp Randell Field (Madison WI), Michigan State, etc. Lots of good times. I'll have to check out the movie on DVD...
Great movie to just sit back and enjoy...the soundtrack is great, especially if you like marching bands. Be sure to watch the DVD extras, as it talks about the bands actually used in the movie (real marching bands, filmed in the Georgia Dome). Fun movie.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tcooper185\";p=\"87938)</div> I have yet to rent the DVD but I will be sure to watch the extras. Should sound better on my home theater system then when I watched it on cable thru the TV,
Hi Rick; I played trombone through high school and some in college, until I switched to drums and found my 'calling'. I'm always looking for a good movie rental and this one might be right up my alley. Whenever I test drive a car, I check out out the top of the steering wheel and dashboard for finger tapping potential....sounds really stupid but fellow drummers will understand...........
What kind of stereo system do you have that doesn't run cable? Ours doesn't have a coax input but we run through the cable box and hook that up to the surround system as Video 1. A cheat, I know. Didn't want to pay the extra $150 for the upgrade.
hey Rick!! i must have seen the same movie at the same time. really gives some insight as to the work that band members put in. the music was excellent and the acting was great. definitely would recommend to anyone that they see it
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galaxee\";p=\"88112)</div> Actually I don't have a AV receiver type of system. Wanted to put a system together but came upon a Sony DAV system that as a good buy. 500 (?) watts,5.1, plays DVD's, CD's and is AM-FM too. Even as simple as this to operate,my wife still can't use it. And what if I had put together a AV system? She would have been even more lost,
