I can't find any mention of a DRL option (to get insurance reduction). Is it available? With halogen or led?
My 2004 manual stated it was only available in Canada. Is that still the case?

Still the case. I'm sure if you have the know-how, you could add the relay yourself, but it would likely only be available on the halogen model unless high-beam bulb is used on the LED version. Last time DRL was orderable was on Gen-1 (we have it on ours).

I wonder why it is not available...besides the proven safety enhancement, it would be nice to get the insurance discount. As for after-market ...the insurance companies would not recognize as eligible for discount.

There is a module you can but to use the turn signals for DRL. Both turn signals are on and then one blinks when you wish to turn. Only connections are 12 V, 12 V headlight switched, ground, and series connection to right and left front signals. Search for DRL-1, which runs about $50. If there is a relay you can simply plug in, I think I would like that even better. May need to go to the Toyota Doc page for $15 per day fee.

I can only speak for my 2005, but I leave the Headlight switch ON at all times. The headlights turn on when the Power switch is activated. The headlights turn off when the Power switch is de-activated and the driver door is opened.

This effectively gives the same condition as with DRLs. The difference is that the low-beam headlights are at full intensity instead of reduced intensity as with an OEM DRL circuit. However, the OEM bulbs are still burning brightly after 4-1/2 years and 45,000 miles.

I would much prefer automatic headlights than DRL's. Maybe Toyota thinks no DRL's is a more green approach. It would be cool if the lights could get power from solar panels.

Hey, how about some mirrors with servo motors that reflect sunlight from where ever it is in the sky in the proper beam direction.

I think leaving the headlights on all the time is a good option for Non HID bulbs that are cheaper, but it is not legal for Canada, because someone could shut them off.
