Well my argument has been the Prius isn't very sporty, so getting it in black at least makes it look as sporty as it can look (which hasn't been very sporty). Now however, it's a bit more edgy and I'm a bit more old I have REALLY liked the Blizzard Pearl pics I've seen on the 2010s, but who am I kidding ... my last 4 cars have been black. As far as Blizzard Pearl, it seems like everyone and their dog will have that color of Prius so black would at least be a bit more rare Still deciding
Fair enough. Would've been nice if Magnetic Grey was offered because I thought that was a good alternative to black. Even better would be Black Sand Pearl so we get the metallic effect instead of a solid black.
I agree with you on the metallic black color and how that would be cool. I am still perplexed as to which color I want, and another has even entered the fray -- Winter Gray. After seeing the aftermarket chrome trim available, I thought Black would for sure be my choice but after seeing some pics of the Winter Gray and more of the 2010 in general, I'm thinking it over again! I should probably just wait a while and see what I think when I see them in person ... that would be too smart though i guess
Winter Grey is based on a blue colour (unlike Tideland Pearl which is based on green). The colour code shows an "8" as the starting digit which is a blue colour code (Greys are "1" or "2" IIRC). It looked flat at Detroit (so indoor lighting). I can't remember how it looked like in L.A. but it didn't pop like Barcelona Red or Blue Ribbon did.
My dealer called me that they have a Winter Gray Pkg V with Misty Gray in ... and it's not spoken for ... guess they're showing up in the Midwest! I am going to head up for a test drive and see what I think in person tomorrow. He also told me they have allocated a Package V in Black for me that will be here in July. Now I feel bad for thinking I'm leaning Blizzard Pearl now!!! (in reality my mind is changing day to day b/t the three)
Yes, I was assured of it. Also saw a Blizzard Pearl in person and was REALLY impressed by the color on the 2010 ... going to be a tough decision!
I also would have thought the gray was a gray-blue hue but you have to look REALLY hard to see the blue-purple in the color. It's a very dark charcoal. The Misty Gray color (60) is a slightly greenish gray and that's pretty obvious to my eye. Dianne
Just looking at your two pictures, I immediately think Blizzard Pearl ... then I imagine the black in person with some chrome trim on it with the 17s and I start to lean black. Black just looks so sporty and classy (when clean ) overall ... then the other pics you posted of the black from behind really cause me apprehension (the batmobile pic). Something about me is just scared to get Blizzard Pearl b/c it's generally so bland overall, but I feel like the 2010 looks really good in Blizzard Pearl. I'm sure people are sick of me posting about this quandry I'm stewing over ... when I made this decision when I bought my '08 I had similar difficulty choosing and never regretted black, but I also think I will end up keeping my 2010 for 4-5 years at least, so maybe something that hides scratches a bit better is wise. Maybe Winter Gray is a nice compromise (maybe I'll find out tomorrow on that)?
That's what I've got now ... tint is a must have! I was just looking at the Long Beach port photos of both the Winter Gray and Black both in 17s and the Black looks better Back and forth I go!
After seeing the Winter Gray in person, I am leaning towards Black right now. The winter gray looked nice, but not enough so to make me want to buy it on the spot. It didn't have any metallic flavor to it at all. The prior posters are right that it looks darker in person than some of the pictures on here would lead you to believe. I know I just said this in another thread, but there's an unclaimed Winter Gray in Pkg V w/Nav and Misty Gray interior in Nebraska ... let me know by PM if you want any more information!
Black sure is purdy when it's new. but forget it, this is the last black car (2007) i will ever buy again. I'm all about silver or white on my next car, probably white. My gf and parents all tried to talk me out of black, but I was stubborn. Ohwell what can you do? I've been thinking of getting a porter cable and quality polish to get the swirls out of the paint, but probably won't. if you get black, besure to 3M it all over. I wonder if the GenIII paint is stronger, the GenII chips so easily. And looks really bad on black
There is some truth to this, especially in very HOT sunny climates. It takes my prius quite a long time to cool during the day here in las vegas. Having say a white car, would be quite a bit cooler inside, and less time for the A/C to chug along eating away at the battery. no doubt it will probably get slightly less mpg over the life of the car being black in certain climates.
