Wow! I'm am now the very proud owner of a 2009 package 4. My wife and I love the car. My father and I ventured out with the intention of buying a Honda Civic hybrid, although my wife was leaning toward the Prius (I had been against it). My father, by the way, was there because he loves to go car shopping. Loves it.

We are from NJ and were headed to Dad's friend's Honda dealer in PA. When we got off the highway I saw a Toyota dealer in the rear-view mirror and, on a whim, decided to make a U-Turn and head in that direction. "At least if we go and look at the Prius I can tell the wife we tried, then we can go buy this Civic."

When I pulled up, however, I was intrigued by advertisements for cash back and 0% financing for 60 months on the Prius.

I spoke to the dealer, he had only four left. Two white and one red which I didn't want. One magnetic gray metallic. As I was looking at the sticker of this package 5 I thought, I bet if they had a 4 we could make it work. As we stood there looking at the 5 the manager came out and said, we also have this color in a package 4 if you're interested. Interesting. It had been purchased the day before by someone who had dropped out at the last minute, or so they said. In any event, I really liked the car. It was in the garage and had just been cleaned and prepped for the other buyer.

After several hours of negotiating I financed about $19,000 for a 2009 Package Four in magnetic gray metallic. 0% financing for 60 months.

I now have a much more fuel efficient, new vehicle, and am paying a much lower monthly payment than on my 2005 Mercury Mariner (20 mpg at best) which I traded in for the Prius. I still owed about $4500 on my truck and they paid that off too.

Long story I know, but had I not seen that dealer in the rear-view I could be driving a more expensive Civic with many, many less features.

My father, being the car-buying lover that he is, called the Honda dealer to see if they could beat Toyota's deal. They told us, over the phone, that they could not. Wow.

    :)

What dealer did you buy from in Pa.? I'm just taking a wild guess that it might be Halterman's since a Honda dealer is close by.

Congratulations. My wife and I went shopping two weeks ago. Like you, we were unable to pass up a great deal on an '09. Our car is a red package 4. The dealer came down $1700 off sticker and we got the 0% for 5 years on the total price. We love the car and are averaging 55.5 MPG after 300 miles. How can you beat 0% on such a high quality car with such great features???

What do you think about a package 2 Touring $23,700 which includes destination charge? Is that a good deal? Haven't bought yet.

Oh, BTW, that was without the $1000 rebate. I was planning to take the 0% APR. So, all you smart Prius shoppers, is Touring pkg. 2, a good deal at $23,700 which has the destination charge included? Thank you for your help. This is a 2009 vehicle.

Check Edmunds.com and KBB.com for their recommendations on what's a good deal for you and for the dealer. The dealer may or may not agree with either one, but it gives you some idea of what you can push for.

I just bought an 2009, package 3, no sales tax and 0% financing. I really like it, the air-conditioner is excellent, but with current the tires it lacks in handling . By the way they threw in the all-weather mats, which are excellent.

What deals you-all got. I should have gone to Pa. to get mine. With endless negotiations -- from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m., I paid $26,200 for package 6. That was with Consumer's Report negotiation sheet in hand too. They didn't have that many Prius' left and customers were clamoring for them. At least I got the 0% financing!

I could not resist the urge. I wound up with an 2009 Prius Touring with package 6 and preferred equipment package for 26,400.

After I pick it up, I'll get the warranty from Troy for 1055.00, and I'll be a very happy camper.

Congratulations on the new 2009 Prius. This is kind of similar to my situation. I actually went to drive the Insight, then a couple hours later went to the Toyota dealer to drive the 2009 Prius. No comparison, in my opinion. Prius was better. I wanted white and there was only 1 in the area. I got a deal that was a couple of hundred difference between the two. I could not resist. I'm very happy with my decision.

Congrats all on your new Prius!!

I so far have not had the success you have had. I'm now back from our home in Florida, now at our western NY home. I have checked with all of the dealers here in western NY, and they all say there are NO 2009 Prius's left in NY. They have also told me that because of no inventory, there are no deals or incentives. There are also no 2010's here yet.

There is a Pkg #3 2009 Silver Pine Mica still in Florida that if I move really fast, (in fact, it may be gone now) that after taxes, dealer charges, etc I can have out the door for $24,797.52.......if I pay cash.

I would have to fly down there and drive it back, which I am not opposed to doing.

I'd love to get a 0% APR deal...but I'm told you have to give up other incentives, so I'd be paying $2,000 more for that APR rate. That's probably a better deal, I'd have to crunch some numbers.

Maybe I need to check some Pa dealers? I'm kinda discouraged....ready to buy but not seeing any stock or dealers who want to sell a 2009 for much less then the 2010's will be....

Am I just not seeing things like I should, a victim of stinkin thinkin ?

I'm thinking I've missed the chance of finding a 2009, and I may just wait a few months and see what I can do on a 2010.....and maybe regret it.

thank you in advance for any help.

    Frank D.

    Hi Frank,

Have you tried Edmunds.com to check inventory around Western NY or the Southern Tier. They seem to have quite a few listings within a 200-mile radius of my zip code. e.g. I see that Gault Toyota in Endicott (near Binghamton) has 9 2009s in stock. I don't know how they are as a dealership, though.

    Thank you Blauer.

When I speak to the dealers around here, they all tell me that they have nothing. I go on their websites and sometimes they show a few, but then they say they were sold.....I do not think many of the dealerships update their websites as often as they perhaps should.

I'll call around some more. Perhaps Edmunds is not as current....I'll keep trying!!
