Since many buyers may balk at a CA Prius with an EBH, I thought I'd pull it out & put it in the 2010. Anyone know if it's the same?

    Yes, it fits perfectly.

That said, I think you may as well leave the old one in your current car. The rubber plug becomes friable and will probably break when you try to unplug it from the core. Then it'll be unusable by anyone.

Just buy a brand new one, you'll want that thermal lube anyway.

I was afraid of that one! My dealer said he isn't really interested in the EBH (he doesn't understand the benefit), and he said I could just take it out.

Instead, I think I'll put a call out to Fire Engineer: WAYNE!!!!!

Did I tell everyone I only put them IN and not take them OUT. OK, I've taken them out for replacement before too.

Evan is right though, the plug end at the heater does age fairly fast and is not a good candidate for a transfer. Best bet is to buy a new one and install it or have it installed. Say Hill, where would like the install done, CA or MT. Or just wait for my tutorial coming up.

I did the 2004 install here in CA, but the '10 will be in MT. I bought the 2004's EBH from Prius Shop, because CA dealers can't even find the part number on their database :p
It's a bummer that the EBH doesn't hold up well for doing a transfer. I'll most likely still yank it out, just so prospective So Cal buyers won't get freaked. I'll look forward to your upcoming 2010 DIY EBH tutorial.

How would you like to have a tutorial session where everyone could take a look at someone's new V? I'll be there if you will.

What exactly does a "block heater" do and what is the cost?

It is a small heating element that inserts into the engine block and is connected to a cord that plugs into the wall. It pre-warms the engine to shorten the warm-up period and, thus, improve fuel economy and let you get warm air from the heater a bit more quickly when needed.

Cost is b/w $40-60 depending upon special deals and such.
PriusChat Shop : Toyota Prius Engine Block Heater [Prius EBH] - $59.00

I use mine year around. I can often be up to full operating temp within 1/4 mile of my home when using the EBH in warm months with just 2-3 hours of pre-warming. I'm convinced my current 75+mpg tank and my last 76+ mpg tank would not have been possible w/o the EBH

I believe Wayne has already done a partial install on a partial 2010.
