Just stopped by my dealer today at Expressway Toyota in Dorchester, MA where I ordered my Barcelona Red 2010 Prius IV w/ Solar in February. I worked with him today to alter the accessories of my car which hit his allocation recently.
I decided to get the All-weather mats, V.I.P Security System, Appearance package(Illuminated Door Sills & rear bumper protection), and cargo net. It says on the Inquiry Report, we made, that the car is on board the Kentucky Highway which is located somewhere off the coast of Mexico headed for Panama and eventually New York.
Bill Benjamin, who I have bought 3 other Toyotas from inluding my current 2006 Prius, was very helpful in customizing the car exactly as I wanted.
Also, if anybody is looking for 2010 Prius IIs, he says he will be also getting 2 of those in at the same time as my IV (early June). I do not know what colors and options these cars have.

I preordered mine at Watertown Toyota and the salesman told me earliest would be the week of Memorial day but most likely first week of June for my Prius 4 with Solar.

I got a call from Ira Toyota last week telling me the 2010's would be available in early June. It didn't sound like they had many orders as the sales lady asked me if I wanted one (I purchased a 2009 from them in March...guess they didn't update their records). Might be worth a call if you don't have one reserved.

Congrats! I'm hoping my car is on the Kentucky Highway also. :)

I had called IRA Toyota but they just gave me the runaround. So I bought mine from Irwin Toyota in Laconia NH, not all that far from Boston. I guess in this are we will all be getting them from the vessel Kentucky Highway. Just a Blue Ribbon Prius II but enough for my needs. :)

Couldn't have just bought it since the ship hasn't even gone thru the Panama Canal to deliver them yet... :)

Are any of you negotiating on the price? Are your dealerships charging a premium because it is a new model? I am in Arizona and having trouble with the dealerships I have contacted regarding pricing and the Prius models they are getting in.

I went to a few dealerships around Boston and they all said MSRP plus destination fee.

My dealer said MSRP + destination/license/etc. I was in NH this afternoon and almost pulled into a random dealership just to see what they were expecting and when. Help me. Next week I'll walk in with a gun and say "gimme the Prius or the Rav4 gets it!" :D

I put $1,000 down and have a purchase order, no Vin# yet.
So "bought" isn't technically accurate. It's still somewhere around Panama with all the cars bound for Boston and this area.

I am paying $22,000 + $750 destination charge and they are giving me the $200 floormats for free. So no premium. The free floormats are a nice touch.
I had a lot of trouble with many dealerships so when a Forum member suggested a dealer, I called them and they had the one I wanted allocated to them. So I went down that day and gave a deposit.
I won't pay over MSRP. I'd buy a different car before I'd pay more. VW tried that stunt with me.... it didn't work.

Contact Chuck Newman (Sales Manager) at Avondale Toyota. Tell him the Robert referred you. They're selling at MSRP plus destination charge. I'm buying a P III with rear bumper applique and premium accessory package (floor and cargo mats, first aid kit, and cargo net). HTMLSpinnr (Rick), who referred me, is also getting his Prius from him.

By the way, Avondale Toyota has lowest sales tax rate in the valley. Good luck and let us know how your search goes.

How do you know that the ship is destined for the east coast or even how do you know what ship everything is on?

Once you have a vehicle specified (through a dealer), t hey can login to the Toyota Inventory System (called Dealer Daily), and get the current status on your car. They will know when it is built, when it gets loaded ona ship, what ETA date it is expected to port, and then the approximate arrival date to their dealership.

This system is updated throughout the day by Toyota, so many dealers will log in many times per day for updates.

That is how I know that my baby is loaded on a ship now, and en route to Portland.

Wow I had no idea. I will try calling the dealer and asking. Is this something that most consumers dont know about? i.e. if I call and ask him is he going to act like I found the bat cave?

I think that this is a fine line. I like to be informed, and I do not mind my dealer knowing that I am a very informed consumer (Hyper-informed?). In this way, I feel that they are less likely to hide something from you, or try to pull one over your eyes.

The reason that I say that this is a fine line is that some other dealers (and again, I am not painting all dealers with this brush), will try to take advantage of you for knowing too much, as some may think that you are really committed to getting this car (and will pay any price for it).

I would be honest, and explain that you heard about this online, and wanted to know if he (or she) had any updates available for your car.

Also, Frobie, while in the system the dealer can alter (delete or add) the accesories that will be installed at port like the VIP Alarm, floor mats, illuminated door panels, etc before the ship gets to port. After I finished changing the accesories with the dealer this last Saturday, I received a print out with all of the details of the car including the name of the ship it was on.
