For about one week now, I have been unable to build a BLACK 2005 Prius at toyota.com. All the other colors seem to still be available. Does this mean that Toyota is phasing out the black Prius or am I jumping the gun here? Has anyone else noticed this too? http://www.toyota.com/toyotaConfigApp/inde...=1&series_id=12
When I built in my region (Chicago) Black shows available, but I didn't see it in the link you posted. I'd contact a local dealer and see what's up. I'd be surprised if black was phased out!
Our first choice was Black, but we got our second choice Silver. I have never seen in person a Black Prius, but plenty of Silver ones. Perhaps they are not being built, too bad, nice looking car in Black.
I built my black 2005 PRI online a few weeks ago, no problem. I did get lucky and get a black one. I had not seen too many on the road. Last week when I was out I saw 3 in one day! None of them had the Gold Package like mine does! :>)
I bought my 2005 Prius on April 17th. I walked in the dealership and Black was the only one available which included Option #6, with extras: Rear Bumper Applique, GBS, Wheel Locks, & Preferred Accessory Package (Carpet floor mats & Cargo Mats, Cargo Net, & First Aid Kit). MSRP was $27,131, but was able to negotiate it to $26,999! I actually wanted the Salsa Red, but Black was my 2nd choice
Black was also my second choice but looking back I wouldn't trade it for anything. If Toyota phases them out I will be quite irritated, I love my Stealth Prius. Although I also have a thing for owning unique items.. and Prii are uncommon enough... if they phased out Black it may be to my advantage. Hmmmm....
Have you called all of the dealers about stock? I've got a black one. Bought it April 6 off the lot. I'll agree they don't seem to make as many black as they make the other colors, silver seeming to be the most available. But the next day I had e-mail from another dealer they had two black ones. Too bad as I settled for an ivory interior instead of the gray I wanted. Have you tried just calling all of the dealerships within a 100 mile radius to see if they have a Black one with the package you want or close to the package you want? Might be easier than ordering and waiting. I had my Black Prius on display at the Earth Day Fair yesterday and had a lot of comments on the color, very popular. Black is classic. I can't see them discontinueing it. But it will cost me more to have an invisible bra installed on it, since the darker the color, the trickier to get it "invisible". Still I like the black. What I don't understand is why Toyota doesn't offer the gray interior with all of the colors. I think the blue with gray interior would be fabulous. Also the red with gray interior. I think the gray interior looks fabulous with all of the colors, except for the beige.
That is some very good negotiating you did. Great deal you got... When did you purchase your prius? I checked the website you have linked, and I do not see a black exterior color option available either...
Hmm... you're right. I put in my own zip code (western region), and black didn't come up as a color option. Maybe they are phasing out the color. I got a black package six a couple of weeks ago (grey interior), so they are still being shipped, at least.
It's available for zipcode 27710 (Durham NC) Don't bother trying to custom order one... doubt it would happen. Contact a dealer and tell them what you want. That's probably the best way to do it. And ask them while you're at it what's up with the black prii disappearing.
I was at first interested in the bronze mica color but eventually bought a black one. I still haven't seen a black one on the road (in Finland). Prius should be black The rest of the colors don't fit (but that's my opinion only )
We took delivery on my wife's 2005 Black package 6 in February. The dealer said it was the first black on they sold - and everybody at the dealership commented on how good the car looks in black. It also looks very good in Salsa Red (my color), IMNSHO.
I don't see that many black ones. I think they don't make many red either. Personally, I think Black is so classic and every car looks great in black. The Prius is especially stunning in black. Yes, is shows dirt and you need to keep it clean and shiney....but you have to do that with any black car. Gee, do you think our Black Prii will then be worth more on the secondary market if/when we decide to buy the new Prius 2008 model?
With a name like mine I had to chime in, i love it in black A dealer told me only 10% of all prius' are made in black while 36% are silver. BUT! It seems to be blemished to my keen eye before, during and after I wash it.
I bought my black beauty 18 days ago and although I ordered it with grey interior it showed up with ivory. I was on the fence wether or not to take it but since I sold my other car and was carless I decided to grab it. Before I even got home I was in love with it. I am not a beer drinker but apparently it looks like a "black & tan" beer! I think it looks classy. I love it, love it, love it! Dawn
No problem spec'ing black here in Connecticut. The black is nice and I would have considered it if I didn't already have a black truck and my previous vehicle, a Grand Cherokee, was also black...8 years of black vehicles...I want color!
What is also interesting, is that in Connecticut, we only get Option Packages A through D: A: $0 50-state emissions (FE) B: $1,100 Package #3 (BI) C: $2,190 Package #5 (AI) D: $5,065 Package #6 (BC) However in Utah, you have: A: $0 50-state emissions (FE) B: $1,100 Package #3 (BI) C: $2,074 Package #4 (AM) D: $2,190 Package #5 (AI) E: $5,065 Package #6 (BC) I'm wondering what other regional differences based on zip code there are that affect configuration?
