Today I priced a 2010 Prius with package IV from a local dealer. This was his response: Here's the breakdown of the pricing for the Prius IV: Total Vehicle Base Model ..........................: $ 25800.00 50 State Emissions ......................... Preferred Premium Accessory Package ........ 280.00 (carpeted floor and trunk mats, cargo net and first aid kit) Appearance Package ......................... 428.00 --------- Total Accessories ...........................: $ 708.00 Destination Charge ..........................: $ 750.00 --------- Total .......................................: $ 27258.00 Currently all Prius IV are being shipped with the Appearance Package from the factory. I'm not sure when, or if, they will be available without it. I'm not sure, but I believe that the Appearance Package is an exterior trim level package to protect the vehicle from dings and dents. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Otherwise, I'll let you know when I have the 2010 available for a test-drive. We've begun taking deposits on the 2010 Prius. Is this true about package IV orders? I suspect dealer games with port installed options. John
In late August 2008, my 09 pack5 w/ CF was $27,574 MSRP which they were getting all of due to the $4.50 gas and long lines to buy a Prius. Yours will have leather plus a car that will blow the 2009 away.
"Appearance package" - what...wax? protective spray on the seats? perhaps door edge guards? Just doesn't sound as if this would be a 'factory' option...more a forced port-installed $$$ windfall. If the Regions / dealers play this game when my car arrives - I must say, I walk and wait until the frenzy settles. I simply do not like to be taken. I had a couple bad experiences in car purchase when younger and promised myself to not be in that situation again. Getting into the '10 early on just isn't that critical to me.
The Appearance package is a "Factory" option. Z4 on the build sheet. The suggested price is $ 428.00 as posted above.
Guess the key word for me is: op⋅tion Pronunciation [op-shuhn] 1. the power or right of choosing. 2. something that may be or is chosen; choice. 3. the act of choosing. 4. an item of equipment or a feature that may be chosen as an addition to or replacement for standard equipment and features: a car with a long list of extra-cost options; a telephoto lens option for a camera.
I wonder if that appearance package is a regional requirement because I've seen the invoice on a IV that arrived last week without that package in Northern California.
These are all accessories. Options are the packages that come from the factory. The Appearance Package sure as heck doesn't come from the factory and is dealer-installed. It's probably the 3M guard, bumper appliqué and some other plastic wrap.
Yes I should have posted that it is a post production option so the OP's dealer wasnt quite telling the truth when he said that all IV's are being built that way from the factory.
Thanks for all the replies so far. For any dealers that monitor this site, you will NOT!! get my business if you play these games.
Unfortunately, for every one of us feeling the same way, there will be twice as many willing to overlook these unsavory practices. Lambs to the slaughter.
The "appearance Package" Z4 is a combination of a G4 and EF. It is a port installed option that regions and dealers can add to the cars they order. It includes illuminated door sills and a rear bumper applique.
Topical.... I just happened to click on a sponsor link on the main page here - happened to be SET (Southeast Toyota - the region I happen to reside in). It took me directly to '09 Prius Specials page - entered my zip and brought me to my local dealer here - to their new '09 inventory. For grins I checked out a few - they have MANY in stock. Every one I looked at had the following package in their content list. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! -------------- $699.00 Toyoguard Plus Protection Group-XY70 Roadside Assistance Program No Charge for First Oil and Filter Change at any Southeast Toyota Dealership Vehicle VIN Etch Glass Product Protection Program Exterior Paint Sealant, Undercoating and Interior Protection Application Rental Car Assistance for Warranty Repairs --------------- My car insurance covers Roadside Assist and rental car. First oil change...what $50 retail? Vin etch...what $50 retail? Paint sealant. undercoating. interior spray. Sounds like a 1988 dealer scam. Undercoating is SO 1980s. If this type of forced "options" are included on '10 Prius I may consider - I will not purchase a new Prius. These tactics are SO distasteful to me. And I'm being charitable in my phrasing.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. I detest the fact that a REGION forces options. It is bad enough when a dealer does it. But the REGION??
Show your dissatisfaction with your wallet. When I bought my '05 package 6 they tried to do the port installed BS and I told them to sell the car to someone else. They thought I was joking. I told them to get me a car without that BS if they wanted me to buy a car from them. 3 weeks later they had my car with no BS. I too am one that does not rush to the dealership because I have to have the first '10 on the street. Now if I was a billionaire, maybe I would be a little different. I suspect not though.
I was afraid I'd get some unwanted accessories at exhorbitant prices. I'm just one of the lambs to the slaughter. But since I'm not in SET maybe it won't hurt too much. Rich N.
FYI, the dealers here are honest and good people. They watch out for us and have helped us immensely. All dealers are not crooks, just like all wine sales people are not drunk
So is it the region (Northeast), or just a greedy dealer. Any one else in the Northeast have a similar quote?
I haven't heard of a region outside of GST or SET doing that widespread. I think it is just the dealer.
