Ding, ding! We have a winner! Except that this is a region-by-region decision, not a national one. Doug Coleman Prius Product Manager Toyota Motor Sales, USA
so are we saying here that this went full circle..ie; japan bombs pearl harbor, we bomb nagasaki and hiroshima, they surrender their military and build their infrastructure and science so it is impossible for us to compete?? sounds like something osama had once said...
John,I agree it's a part of the reason, but I also think there are a lot of 2009's out there that they want to get rid of. Are the 2010's going to sit at the dock waiting for June 1st or will they sit at the dealers?
I like your point on the 2009's; I think that this is also part of the delay until June 1st. My local Toyota dealer has something like 30+ 2009's on the lot and the salesperson has mentioned a few times that "prices are great and inventory never been better" on 2009s. He's not trying to talk me out of the 2010, but letting me know that if I can't wait, there are plenty of 2009s to choose from. From a high-level Toyota perspective, an extra three weeks without the self-induced competition of the 2010 can't hurt move those 2009s.
I know the feeling. My piece of junk Honda is dropping parts like it's riddled with cancer. I will not be selling this lemon to anyone! But I am not sure I can wait until June - July on getting a car. Any suggestions about purchasing an 09? Ins/outs?
NO WAY! Because I do my homework and Toyota is the #1 car company and the #1 Hybrid. Duh! Will NEVER buy a different brand of car besides a Toyota. You must not have ever owned a Prius I assume. Why do you think the Hondas are sitting stacked on the lots? I dont see a Honda Insight chat room, do you? (I say that in the nicest way)
I would like to say one thing to all of you and I know 98% of you agree (the other 2%, oh well, you are the minority). TOYOTA IS THE #1 CAR COMPANY IN THE WORLD FOR A REASON. They are amazing cars, fantastic work ethics and they have devoted followers for life, hence prius chat. They have stepped up when my warranty expired and covered my display going out. I LOVE them for that. Would Honda do that, NO. Would Ford do that, BIG NO. And the No list goes on and on. I LOVE Toyota and will NEVER buy a different car from any other company. Again, we are very dedicated people here, intelligent, professionals. We wait, wait, wait but that is ok because when we all drive down the road in our 2010, we will smile and wave and know we have the BEST car for the environment and for us. Plus, we like our friends here chatting it up, (since our family is sick of hearing about our new car), happy being around the prius geeks that we are
I wasn't expecting mine until June-July anyway, but I really don't want to wait too long. My Echo runs great, but with 155K miles, no A/C and an oil leak I don't want to risk a breakdown too much longer. The waiting.... Rich N.
Easy girl I was just kidding. By the way there is a Honda Insight chat room which in fact has been around longer than Priuschat. The Insight 2 forum is lame and barley has any members. Priuschat is by far the best and the most informative auto chat room I have seen.
There are definitely many factors at play, each providing a good reason for waiting. Heck, it even helps GM. Justifying the change they require for surivial and later prosperity is a whole lot easier when the board looks around and sees that the world is actively embracing the new hybrids. .
Not all dealers are overflowing with 2009s. My dealer, which is located in a major metro area, only has four 2009s left and seems eager to sell me a 2010 as soon as she can get the inventory. The Prius has always had a big following in some parts of the country (read big sales and tough to keep inventory in stock) and has not been nearly as popular in other regions. I happen to live in an area where the Prius is king and inventory is usually relatively low.
Central Atlantic Toyota region is taking an even more radical approach ( NY/NJ as well I think ), while the Boston region and Cinci regions both have their vehicles in Dealer Daily both of the coastal regions show zippo. Again it's a regional issue one that I think relates to the June sales launch but also to allow the stores to blow out the remaining 09's. We the dealers are waiting patiently just as you the buyers are....LaLaLaLaLaLa, twiddletwiddletwiddle
A little birdie told me if you want to drive to Oregon you may be able to find one in a week to 2 weeks................
Boston? Hey! That's me! Hooorah!! :cheer2: That Google Earth picture of the parking lot of cars makes me think of renting a helicopter with a dangling a magnet and just picking one off. Just one. Question: Is there a list somewhere of what states/areas constitute a region? For instance I think CT is only considered New England if the Red Sox are winning - then they side with NY.
Only problem I see with the Helicopter idea, is that according to your profile, <-- You are seeking a IV with Solar Roof. This means that the magnet would not work to pick it up... But if you wanted to grab me a V with AT, I would be happy to fuel up your bird...
One dealership in Bel Air (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the name) has 6 on its web site this afternoon. But a few weeks ago they had 9 so the 2009s are still moving and their promos for the Prius are for the 2010. Rich N.
