Yes, please help support PriusChat by purchasing it through WarrantyShack, and don't ruin it for everyone else by mentioning the deal to your dealer. We've already gotten into some trouble because of some dealerships complaining.

For the next two years (maybe more if I don't retire) I'll be getting 6-7 oil changes per year (30-35K miles/year). My dealer gives free oil changes (although they haven't committed to them on the Prius yet because of the synthetic oil). Assuming (1) They meet their commitment
    (2) I'm not a DIY

Is the extended maintenance worth it without oil changes? It seems I'd be missing the most frequently used benefit for it.

    Thanks,

    Hi Raidbuck,

No, if you're getting free oil changes from your local dealer it wouldn't be worth it for the maintenance plan.

BTW, Toyota Auto Care doesn't cover the cost of synthetic oil. It covers the cost of standard motor oil which meets Toyota's specifications for the vehicle. If you wanted synthetic, you would be required to pay the difference in cost between them.

    Troy,

    Thanks.

But I thought Toyota's specification for the 2010 Prius was for 0W-20 oil which is only synthetic now. I'm confused.

Sorry, I guess I'm the one that's not well informed. If 0W-20 is the Toyota spec oil, and it's not available in anything other than synthetic then they would have to cover it. The dealership is obligated to use oil that meets the Toyota specifications for the car.

I have just run into this question many times where people prefered to use synthetic, when oil meeting Toyota's specs was available in the regular form...in that case, they would just pay for the difference in the cost.

I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of the pre-paid maintenance plan for the 2010 Prius goes up a few dollars because of its 0w-20 synthetic oil requirement.

Yeah, TFS will be getting a lot of complaints if dealers have to use synthetic oil without additional reimbursement. Currently the cost of the Auto Care maintenance plan is the same for all models of Toyota. Maybe they'll come out with tiered pricing based on model like they do with the warranty plans....or as VW does it, add a surcharge to the cost of the plan for synthetic oil use.

Not to worry. I didn't even mention this to the dealer. I will go through Warrantyshack and mention Priuschat. I am going to wait a while to make sure I'm happy with the TCH and going to keep it. Then I will purchase through WarrantyShack.

Proud new owner of a 2009 package 5 as of last night here. :) I'm so thankful that I found this forum before purchasing!

The closer tried very hard to get me to buy the 7/100k platinum warranty for $1500. He told me that the full price of the warranty would be refunded at the end of the 7/100k if I never made a claim. Is that true?

Toyota does not offer a money back guarantee on the ExtraCare plans. So any dealer offering that option, is either selling a 3rd party warranty altogether, or else they're packaging a separate 3rd party insurance policy together with the Toyota warranty to provide it.

I actually looked into offering this as an option a few years back, and I was unable to find a credible insurance company with that type of coverage. Certainly none that I wanted to associate my name with. If there's one out there that's worth the premium, I'd love to see the contract.

I'm new to the fourm, and I'm considering purchasing this coverage to replace the one I bought through Toyota. Has anyone had to use this warrantyshack coverage? Feedback?
    Thanks!

Is a pre-paid maintenance service still offered by Prius Chat? I just signed to lease a 2010 and they quoted me $1495 for this. Can I do better? Thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike,

Yes, the current cost for the Toyota AutoCare Premium, 4 yr / 55,000 miles is $875.00 through PriusChat. For the purchase info, please email us at [email protected] or fill out the quote request at WarrantyShack.com so that PriusChat gets credit.

    Thanks,

    Troy

I don't understand the above post. I thought that the $1055 price through Warrantyshack was for a Toyota Platinum Warranty. It isn't?

    Can someone explain to me?

    Thanks,

    Rich N.

It is. The above poster is mis-informed...and he is most likely an employee of another Toyota dealership. The fact that he mentions the advertising covenant in his post is a big clue, since no one else would have any idea what that is.

"Toyotaguyofboston" is trolling for Acton Toyota:

And judging from his thrash talking post in this thread, he's also a jerk. Not a person I'd do business with.

My Toyota platinum warranty purchased through Troy at Greenfield Toyota came in the mail today. I bought it for my 2007 Prius that now has 35,500 on it. It's a win/win situation. I'm happy if i never need to use the warranty, and i'm happy if i do have to use it, being covered for stuff. Just want to say that buying the warranty from Troy was smooth, fast, friendly and easy, good price, great car, great warranty. Thanks Troy and PriusChat.

I would like to get some clarification on the extended warranty before buying it.

If I get a 7yr/100000 $0 deductible it is $1055 on a new car from warrantyshack.com (dealer has offered it at $1200). If it is brought closer to the end of the 3 year warranty how much will the cost be? What are the recommendations?

Also in the maintenance plan ($875 for 4yr/55,000 mile from warrantyshack.com - as opposed to $1495 (non-negotiated price) from the dealer), what would be the cost after the first 5k service. Also wanted to know how much saving is it to buy this service plan.

Wanted to know the answers before making a purchase.
