Thanks Lori for posting this. I've been thinking of chroming my wheels for a while now and this seems like it's worth a go. I've seen the real chromed wheels on a black Prius before (public photos of Demi Moore's black Prius when she had an accident), and I think they looked great and would look good on my Magnetic Gray too ... something shiney against all that blackness and grayness. EDIT: Here's the Demi Moore chrome wheeled black Prius: [IMGLINK]http://img.perezhilton.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/wenn1780058__oPt.jpg[/IMGLINK]
They will look even better on a black car. I was parked at Walmart last week and when I came out there was another prius owner waiting to ask me where I got them
Yeah, but I do cheesy! Seriously, I understand the sentiment. Chromed plastic does not look as good as chromed metal. But some chromed plastics (like these Chrome Wheel Skins) look, IMO, better than others. But have you noticed how much chromed plastic car manufacturers have been using these past 20 years, including on luxury cars? Some of it borders on blasphemy, e.g., Jaguar XJ sedan.
To be honest when I first looked at them I thought "those are probably the best lookin chrome covers I've ever seen, they really don't look like something bought at Wal Mart" I know exactly what your talkin about, prime example is the Chrysler 300 its covered inside and out with chrome plastic accents. Sad part is many people think this means Luxury, in all reality it means cheap shiny crap used to get you to buy an over all hunk of junk.
Pat Sparks said that he's received his order (he's in Australia), and he thought they looked great. I just ordered a set --- $79 + $12 shipping = $91 delivered. I want to shine this summer.

My wheels are all messed up due to three winters here in Montreal. Even discoloration of the aluminum, lots of deep scratches. Having a chrome snap-on is just the ticket. I don't know if it's a bug, but the shipping to Canada seems free also, but I'm going to email them first. EDIT: Nope! http://www.autoamenity.com/Shipping.htm Shipping to Canada, 20 - 30$ Plus I'd have to pay 15% tax on the declared good's value. Will have to find a Canadian reseller. So much for "free trade", eh? EDIT2: Sucks ! Nothing in Canada, only US suppliers, that only do FedEx guaranteed air shipping to Canada (International) thus the near 30$ surcharge. Any of you in Vermont? Or know a store in Plattsburgh that sells these skins?
They look the same as mine, sorry I didn't find that site first. Glad everyone will be saving some cash.
How much would Suburban charge you for shipping? In any event, $116 USD ($75 + 15% + $30) delivered from Auto Amenity isn't bad.
Boo, same price on Suburban, I checked. From experience, it's cheaper to do a custom order from a local vendor. Will take much longer, but I'll save big, as I have to factor in the Exchange Rate. IOW, paying US 75$ + local sales (12.75%) tax is cheaper than 116 US$. PriusChat I've bought from, because they do ground shipping to Canada. This item would probably make for an excellent "Group Buy", if PC could match Auto Amenity for price + discount of the group buy.
Got mine today from autoamenity.com as suggested by EJFB1029 -- at $74.50 with free shipping through UPS Ground (which is the fastest ground shipper), they're a great bargain. And although they are plastic, I think they look just fine:
I WANT THEM ! ! ! ! ! (but not at a 30$ premium to get them to Canada) I actually PM'ed Danny if he could get these on the PriusChat store, where there are other items of interest that I want to buy. Combined Shipping FTW ! Gold Spinners ? Whaaaat? God knows those things add to the drag increasing the CD.
Hey, quit making fun of us. FYI, I'm going to go out now to admire my wheels. While there's still light out. Should be able to get a half hour's worth of viewing.
