Hey pat i'm not some anarchist...and i know the tint is more for the officers safety. I do respect LEOs but most here don't care about tint or things like that although lately, more fix it tickets have been issued because of the pretty much guaranteed $25. Not going to lie, I've had to call police while working and I have also worked side by side with them, most recently last night.

Arctic, did you get 1 citation for both violations or 2 seperate citations?

I also recommend paying it either by mail or using the stamped time drop box in the lobby of the Clairmont Traffic Court. The wait can be an hour almost any day of the week unless you're there first thing in the morning. Also let me know if you get anything in the mail...i waited 3 weeks and didn't get anything so just went in and paid the thing.

Arctic, your car reminds me of my MR2 Spyder. Except my calipers are yellow. I bought some red paint for them, but never go around to re-painting them. I'll probably paint my 2010 calipers as soon as it gets here.

    Good lookin' ride!

I received two separate citations on the same ticket. One for the tail lights and the other for the front windows. The cop saw my tail lights (a motorcycle cop!), sped up to see me through my passenger window and then slowed and turned his lights on. He was decent as far as conduct goes. I think they are on a push to raise revenue so the easiest targets are cars with tint. I am going to wait to get something in the mail and if not will just use that drop box you mentioned. I wish the ticket or website clearly showed how much to pay as I worry with new laws passed that the fees were raised.

Thought about getting my car immediately re-tinted but I think I will live with it for now.

SDTUNDRA: Are you going to the event on the 25th in Carlsbad?

I will be there on the 25th and the tickets used to be $10 but since January 2009 have been raised to $25.

That sucks, mine was down my street at 11PM. He turned on his lights and siren...which of course brought out the neighbors to see.

Of course, you really need to move to some State with black license plates.

I know your not an anarchist, the reason you can't have very dark tint is it affects your ability to see out of the car when it's dark out or when the weather is bad. The reason police do their job is because they are employed to do it, it has nothing to do with revenue even if the revenue is in state budgets. Fines are there as a deterrent not revenue. Don't like paying into revenue pools, don't offend.

Dude, it's a prius. do many people laugh at you? i "murdered" out my 09 tundra crew max. makes it more respectable with a truck and a 5.7l engine. i have a 2008 prius that has been sitting in the garage since october. what a waste of money. i will only drive it when gas goes over $4.00 a gallon.

How do you fit a garage under the bridge? Do you find the banks of the river are too slipery to drive on when wet? Is there a risk of being electrocuted by the battery if the water level of the river rises to the level of the bridge?

When you drive your 5.7 litre toy truck do people laugh at you while you fill it with gas? I know I laugh at people who commute in oversize toy trucks while they fill up with gas, then I cry at the harm they are doing.

I do not look for respect when driving a car. If driving a truck with no payload and a V8 makes you feel better than others, so be it. For you to come onto this site and blast the very car this site is dedicated to is indicative of your lack of social skills. You want respect and some manners, here are some sites where you can apply for them:

    GoArmy.com
    U.S. Marine Corps
    Navy - Accelerate Your Life
United States Air Force - AirForce.com

Arctic what % tint did you have on the windows and especially the tail lights. I want to do my tails on my 2010 but am unsure of how dark to go. I just got the windows tinted 3% yesterday. Thanks.

I believe tints on any lights are illegal in most states. What's more is that it might be hard for drivers behind you to see your brake light.

I actually went to larger tires to gain more ground clearance. It eliminated the gap problem and gas mileage stayed about the same. Why you say? I live in Arkansas with more miles of Gravel roads than any other state....
Not trying to hijack here, but on a similar subject, how are the emblems removed? Do they have pins or are they stuck on? I want to put the emblem on the outside of my leather bra. err, I mean the Prius Bra, not mine :^)... jf

The Circle-T emblems front and rear, and HybridSD badges are "pinned"
and attached with 3-M double-sided tape. These are only locating pins.
They have nothing inside the bodywork that attaches the the badges.
All the rest use only the 3-M tape.

If you park the car with the full noonday summer sun shining on on the
rear lift gate for a half an hour or so you can literally pull the badges off
with your fingernails. Start at one end and pull slowly and continuously.
The tape will slowly let go or tear.

Alternately, you can saw through the between the badge and bodywork
with dental floss. Push off any tape residue with your finger and some
Goof-Off. Clean and wax the newly exposed paint.

    Hope this helps.

Here's my wifes murdered out 2010 Prius, word of advise, be sure to send the emblems out to get professionally painted with high quality paint, it'll save you lots of money in the long run by preventing chipping. Mine were painted almost 2 years ago (bought one of the first 2010 model's) and still look brand new. Installed 18" Motegi SP10's which I got powder coated 20% gloss black and 20% Tint all around. It sucks I had to remove the tint on the front windows because here in Germany it's illegal to have the front/side windows tinted. My wife won't let me lower it, which I know will make it handle way better and just plain look more proportionate with the wheels. Feel free to tell me what you think about my wife's rig. Thanks
