After seeing the "top 10 challenge" from the Prius Team and not seeing any other threads discussing said challenge to date, I thought I'd throw out what I'd like to see (also based on what a lot of us would like on their car) in an options package: 3-door SKS Sunroof w/ ventilation and AC system Heated seats You could call it the Convenience or Comfort Package...
Stealing Daniel's idea, a "Safety" package, with the back-up camera (rear-view mirror mounted), the LKA, dynamic cruise control, all safety features. I'd throw in an option for cloth/non-leather seats here.
I agree with Winebuff. I don't want the navi but do want the Sunroof option I would also love the ability to get the LED headlamps with any package
I agree. Would love the 17" wheels package with LED's and foglights and perhaps the Cruise Control feature as a stand alone from the other techno package stuff. I will be an early adopter as I am dying to get a new car and this is the one. Will have to at least see if my buddy who works for Lexus can help me out with some of the parts at his cost and install them myself once the parts are made available. The lights of course are what I'm speaking of. Will put aftermarket wheels on it just to help separate it from everyone elses. Now I just need the wheel offsets for the 17" wheels so I know what will fit.
I agree with Efusco, Back-up camera, dynamic cruise control, and pre-collision system. A super safety system!!!
I believe the Idea was to come up with 10 packages, like they have now, but with different trade off decisions than they have with the current choices, then see how many are satisfied/dissatisfied with the 10 groupings. This will take some thought. I plan to work on this exercise and post it this evening. Roy
Yea, I understand the exercise...I saw this thread as more of a brain-storming session before coming up with our individual lists.
The thing is that unless you have sonar hearing, the beep won't show you how close your rear bumper is to the car next to you. The cam shows the bumper line and allows you to get pretty close to objects. Also, I doubt a 2 year old wandering behind your car and out of sight would understand what the beep is for anyway.
The beep is inside the car... the closer you get to what is behind you the faster it beeps. Besides, the driver should know what is behind them when backing up anyway..otherwise they shouldn't be on the road I'm not trying to cause arguments, by the way, just stating my opinion I'm only going to have the backup camera because I want a moonroof.
I think the safety package is an excellent idea. To add to that, I'd suggest a 'comfort' package and a 'sports' package. With 3 levels of options within each package, and a 'base', that gives 10. But, what if someone wanted a combination of say, safety two and sports three? Hmm. To repeat an old gripe, premium tires would sure be nice, even if they are an extra cost option. I'd suggest they belong in the safety package, but the sports package is more likely.
Sonar would be nice in the bumper, but as Doug mentioned - everything we add to this car affects pricing in some way. Is bumper sonar cheaper than a camera?
I was thinking the Prius Team was talking about various combinations of the following (did I miss any?) - 15" alloy wheels 17" alloy wheels halogen headlamps LED headlamps (with washers) Standard sound system Advanced sound system XM Satellite radio USB option leather trim heated front seats power driver lumbar support 3-door smart key illuminated entry PlasmaCluster autodimming rearview mirror w/Homelink foglamps Navi system w/backup monitor solor moonroof (ventilation - A/C) Lane Keep Assist Dynamic Radar cruise control Pre-Collision System Intelligent Parking Assist
1. Prius II 2. Prius II w/ 3-dr SKS 3. Solar Package w/o nav 4. Fully loaded model 5. LED/Moonroof package with 15" alloys 6. Fully Loaded without leather 7. Adv. Tech Package without leather 8. Power Moonroof only 9. Solar Panel only. 10. Prius V with cloth Really, it all comes down to seat fabric lol.
I don't know what "bumper sonar" is. However a rear parking sensor that provides aural feedback works well with my 2004 as a dealer-installed option. It has an intermittent beep starting when the rear bumper is around 3 feet away from an object. The speed of the beeping increases as you approach the object and becomes a solid tone when you are 1 foot away. Here's an example of a parking sensor priced at $90 retail: 2 In-Bumper OEM Asymmetrical Ultrasonic Parking Sensor System Certainly this would be less expensive than a camera plus a color display (aka MFD).
OK, here is my list, edited from price list announced yesterday: 1: Prius II as detailed elsewhere 2: Prius III (All features of old III and IV except leather, heated seats & power lumbar support) In addition to Prius II features: ► JBL AM/FM/MP3 six-disc CD changer with eight speakers ► Integrated satellite radio capability ► Hands-free phone capability via Bluetooth® wireless technology.: ► Three-door Smart Key system ► Driver and front passenger water repellant windows ► Plasmacluster™ ionizer ► Auto dimming mirror with HomeLink® 3: Prius III with Solar Roof Package 4: Prius IV In addition to Prius III features: ► Leather-trimmed interior ► Heated front seats with driver lumbar support 5: Prius IV with Navigation Package 6: Prius IV with Solar Roof Package 7: Prius IV with Navigation Package & Solar Roof Package 8: Prius IV with Solar Roof Package & Advanced Technology Package (inc Nav) ► LED headlamps with auto leveling and washers ► Integrated foglamps 9: Prius V In addition to Prius IV features: ► 17-inch alloy wheels and P215/45 R17 tires ► LED headlamps with auto leveling and washers ► Integrated foglamps ► Navigation Package 10: Prius V with Advanced Technology Package (includes Nav) Optional Equipment Navigation Package Available on Prius III, IV, V Voice-actived touch-screen DVD navigation system with JBL AM/FM/MP3 four-disc CD changer, eight speakers, integrated satellite radio capability, XM NavTraffic capability, hands-free phone capability and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology and integrated backup camera Solar Roof Package Available on Prius IV Power tilt/slide moonroof with Solar Powered Ventilation System and Remote Air Conditioning System Advanced Technology Package Available on Prius IV, V Includes Navigation Package equipment plus Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) Pre-Collision System (PCS) Lane Keep Assist (LKA) Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA) Rationale: Anyone who will pay for an upgraded audio system will want other advanced features (thus eliminating old Prius III) but not necessarily Leather. ATP now available without 17" wheels. Solar roof available without Nav. Roy P.S. Doug: please custom build #6 for me. Thanks.
The 2 biggest complaints I'm noticing involve: 1. forcing the purchase of a Nav system to get the solar roof. 2. 3 door sks not available on Pkg II and III. If those 2 options could be unbundled and offered to all levels II - V I think Toyota would have much happier purchasers.
