A few weeks back another Prius Chat member had posted that she successfully defended her PhD....well, I joined that club today too (in Biological Oceanography)! It's a great feeling of relief! Hmm, now I just have to find a job.....
CONGRATS Dr. Brodie! :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: :yo: :tea: :tea: :tea: And now to find employment... :drum:
congrats! i'm screaming toward the finish line myself (after several false starts on account of my boss's excitability), but the current job market scares me to death. work the network! that's what i'm doing!
Thanks everyone! It was a lot of hard work but definitely worth it. Well, now, anyway....in the middle of the mess sometimes it doesn't seem that way!
Of course, now that you're a doctor and all, please don't forget about us "little people" That tends to hurt our tender feelings
Looked for a Brodie on the URI GSO student list - have they already removed your name, or are you somewhere else? What's the thesis topic?
Congratulations Dr. Brodie! I earned a Ph.D. in French from Columbia University back in 1966, and taught French at various colleges for a number of years. But then the demand for French went way down in the late 70s and I found myself back in school getting an accounting degree and a CPA and was lucky enough to wind up back in the classroom teaching accounting! I'm not surprised to read of Prius owners with advanced degrees: it's always been my hypothesis that smart people choose smart cars!
It is. Actually, I like it more and am better at it than what I got my PhD in (which I also like a lot), but yacht design is a tiny, economy driven field which is the last bastion of the old boys club. Not an easy field for a female in the best economy and suicide when the economy is bad (as it was when I graduated from the Landing School). My 10 months at the Landing School was the most fun I've ever had, it was awesome.
My older brother is a navel architect. Take a look at the "Suzy" photo album under my name to see one of his designs. Tom
