LOL! Just to make it that much harder, you could probably buy an '07 or '08 RX400h for what the '10 Prius is going to cost ;)

I have a 2008 Rx400H and it gets 25mpg overall. I only put in regular gas and I have never had a problem with it. It's a great vehicle.

People on my Lexus forum run their RX400hs on regular all the time and have no issues ;)

Some things to help you, so SKS on the RX400h, thats a real bummer to me. I would try and get my wife to let me trade the Prius in on a CPO RX400h but she would have none of it because of the SKS.

The new RX450h will have SKS...

You know what? I think im gonna look into that. But the V6 AWD RX400h probably gets like 25mpg or something.. what are the EPA numbers?

Good guess. It gets 25 mpg combined on the EPA test. You can lookup any car's or light truck's EPA numbers at Side-by-Side Comparison.

I understand the love of Prius. Ford's Fusion should help Ford and Toyota. Without competition to push Toyota there would be little incentive to introduce a plug-in Prius. Ford is obviously going after the Camry Hybrid customer. I applaud them. I only hope that GM and or Chrysler can come back strong and push for better quality, gas mileage, and fun.

I did the same thing you did. I had a list of four cars that I wanted ; the Prius, Subaru Forrester, Rav 4, and Honda CRV. I compared all the features, price and MPG'S. Of course the Prius won!

I saw a Fusion Hybrid parked on the street downtown yesterday with temporary tags...just FYI.

As for the RX400h, most of the owners on the Lexus board are getting more than 25MPG using fuel friendly driving techniques. I would say 25MPG is probably a fair guess for someone driving normally.

Well.. I just got back from the Lexus dealer and they had a couple of really good deals. For example a brand new 2008 RX400h MSRP $49,000(what the sticker says anyway) the salesman told me he could get it for 38 and thats before I even asked anything so I may be able to get it down to 36... not bad considering a 2006 on that lot is going for 30k. But the mileage is 27 city 24 highway which is not that impressive. I do have a question though with regards to the technology. obviously hybrids which are relatively new are getting more and more technologically advanced as time goes by and I was thinking isnt the hybrid technology on the new cars far superior to that of the older ones? so I dont know if it is wise to buy a 2006 hybrid or a 2008 hybrid with all these new 2010 hybrids coming out... any thoughts?

You have to put the mileage into perspective, most people with RX350s for instance are getting more like 15MPG. So 12MPG more is pretty good.

In terms of technology, the 2010 Prius will no doubt be a more technologically efficient Hybrid than the system thats in the RX400h, as will the system thats in the new RX450h when it comes out. However, the system in the Insight and the Fusion is arguably less advanced than what will be in the 2010 Prius as well. How long are you going to keep the vehicle?

The Lexus ownership experience is far superior to Toyota as well. My Lexus for instance is 6 years old and has 125,000 miles and while its not the latest bodystyle it still gets a lot of appreciation from outside people and I really still enjoy driving it. Owning it is an experience, whereas owning a Toyota is different. Not to say owning the Prius isn't enjoyable, its a unique vehicle as well but...its just different.

I plan on keeping a vehicle for at least 5 years. The Lexus is definitely nice, reliable and holds its value but at the same time with regards to the fusion there's really no way at this time of knowing how it will hold its value since its new. We all know the Prius will probably hold its value but... the game is changing a bit, everone's going hybrid and Toyota will have much more competition. since there are so many Prius's out there at the moment, the future demand may not be what it was so potentially the new non-prius hybrids could keep their value as well if they are as reliable. Who knows...?
Is the Prius hybrid more advanced than the Fusion? I heard the Fusion can go up to 47mph in EV mode. Ill look it up and see if I can find a comparison between the two hybrid engines.

I don't know a whole lot about the Fusion, I have heard Ford the basic system is the HSD system from Toyota...maybe thats changed with the new Fusion.

5 years my guess is from a resale perspective you're probably equally good with the RX400h or the Prius. Any Ford is such a crapshoot in terms of resale...

Not anymore, at the beginning it was licensed from Toyota but this new hybrid system is developed by Ford and they claim(obviously) that its superior to the Prius.

And thats a big concern for me as well. The resale value on Ford is a risky game but since the Fusion is supposedly a 'game changer' then who knows what can happen.. decisions decisions decisions... :)
It all comes down to the test drive.... :)

Thats what I'm reading as I'm doing some research on the Fusion hybrid.

There's no question Ford is making some great cars, the new Fusion is great as is the new Taurus, the new Lincoln MKS, etc. Who knows what the situation is going to be with resale though...
