Brought home my new 09 Seaside Pearl Package 6 last week and I'm lovin' it! First drive home at night, pulling out onto the highway, it felt eerily like driving a spaceship. So cool. We are a musical family and so the JBL sound system was a must. Am trying hard to not gloat too much around the office - it's great to have this forum to come and gleefully shout on! I had posted a few weeks ago about our search. We ended up at our local dealer who gave us a great deal on the car in my favorite color, and gave me a decent price on my trade too. The overwhelming feeling we all have in my family is to look around and ask 'why doesn't everyone drive one of these???' And what took us so long? Anyway, we live out in the country and I have a 50 to 60 mile commute every day, plus music lessons and other kid-shuttling after school, and I am REALLY shooting for 50+ mpg. Right now I'm at 47 after only 300 miles, so I'm hoping after I break it in and with some strategic driving I will get there soon. Plus frequent tire pressure checks. I have some questions but will search the forums first. OH WHAT A FEELING!!!! Lauren
My exact feeling! It is not smug. BELIEVE!! It is not religion either. Prius is like the iPod, a very well designed and polished product that makes the owner smile when using it.
Just keep getting pleasantly surprised by my Prius. I would have told the troll who complained about people harassing him about driving one that a comparably equipped Camry costs about the same as my Prius, and I have TONS more cargo space than a Camry. I can't believe how much stuff it can hold with the back seats down. I borrowed my husband's truck to go to Ikea to buy a bed and some stuff for my daughter's 15th birthday, then realized I could have put her whole bedroom in the back of my Prius. Thanks to all the frequent flyers who answer questions here. Figured out how to search and now I've looked up answers to just about everything I needed to know already. I am still shocked that I can't pause a cd that's playing other than to hit the power button, but so far that's my only complaint. I think I can live with it. Will post a picture today.
The space is great, isn't it? I got a gray 09 a couple weeks ago... had a Boxster before it. Bought my first house last year. Trips to Home Depot were... challenging to say the least. Now I'm sure I can fit a ton of stuff in the back.
I tried to attach a picture of my Prius, but not sure if it worked. If it did, here she is! If not, I'll try again.
Thanks! Where are the plastic trim rings? I had no idea my slip was showing. I guess the windows are tinted. Didn't really notice but that's probably standard here in the Tropics. First tank fill yesterday after 422 miles. Car says we're averaging 47.4 mpg. Pretty happy but pushing for over 50. Ciao!
lauren; glad you like your car and most importantly, WELCOME to the 21st Century. you are driving the current technology. and you are at the best place for info on how to get the best from your new Pri and i did not determine that, Toyota did
Welcome to PC, the plastic trim rings are the plastic wheel covers on the outer edge of the wheels next to the black tires.
what boppo said. If you look closely at the edge of your rims, you'll see that it has two layers. Put your hands between the spokes with your palms facing towards you. Grab the back of the plastic ring and pull hard. Taking it off for the first time is difficult because you don't know how much force you need to remove it and you're worried that you might break something. However, it does require a bit of a tug. Also, you can tell just by tapping the rims which parts are plastic and which parts are alloy.
A feature that I really like is the electronic shift lever being on the dash! I know that many do not, that they'd rather have the shift on the floor, or further down on the center console like it is on the 2010 model. I like it on the dash primarily because it is very close to my right hand when it is on the steering wheel. Since the lever is purely electronic, there is no need to push it very hard. So I can just use my fingers to move it. And being close to the steering wheel means that I only have to move my hand a few inches to get to it. Because of this, shifting the Prius to Drive or Brake modes is almost effortless.
Thanks guys on the plastic trim ring tip-off. I still can't see them in the picture, but I'll get hubby involved and take a look tomorrow. Today we hit a record 92 degrees here in West Palm Beach - another reminder that I bought the right car. One small step toward rewinding the damage to the planet. Good night!
