I get a feeling dealers don't want too much stock when the 2010 hits the showroom because that will kill the sales of the 2009. The tech heads that traditionally buy Prius and the people wanting good economy will be after the 2010. I think the 2010 will make the iconic Prius look old fashioned to be honest and dealers won't display them side by side if they want to sell their stock of 2009 models. I suspect even better deals await those willing to wait for the 2010 release to buy a 2009.
We are shopping now for an 09 package 3 that we can add leather seats to. We were quoted 25K for that, so I think you got a GREAT deal. Question. Aren't these supposed to be sales tax exempt if you buy this year, or do you have to pay it and then get it back with your taxes? Also, what about the $3K federal tax credit rumor? Is that true for a regular Prius or must it be a plug-in to get any tax credit? Also, we can wait another month or so to see if Toyota does drop prices any more, but that seems like a silly way to go now that we have decided we're definitely buying. Thanks to anyone who can clue us in. Lauren & Toby
You pay the sales tax at the dealer, get it back at year end. The $3k tax credit won't be eligible on a prius I don't think. I was also in the same boat regarding when to pull the trigger, I decided to go ahead and get ours last weekend before it was impossible to find one in the options/color we wanted.
Just a deduction, but it is a good deduction (above the line), no need to itemize and no AMT worries. It's like 1/4 or 1/3 off the sales tax, depending on your marginal tax rate. There is no credit for a non-PHEV Prius.
I agree with others, if you want a good deal on a 2009 wait for the 2010 to come out, there should be plenty 2009's still available. I have seen some rebates on the 2009's. Honda's new Insight (coming on the 23rd) is supposed to be under $20K, that should have an effect (good and bad) on lowering Pri prices.
prius prices in cali are a whole different monster. usually it is cheaper to buy the car is in cali and then pay for shipping to you.
Hi! if you don't mind me asking, where did you get such a great deal? I am currently shopping around for an 09 Prius Touring Package 6 (gray metallic) and the best deal I could get is ~$27,300 (out the door). At the most, we only have $25,000 available. Thank you in advance
