I am getting mixed message r/t the availability of a plug-in Prius. I see articles that state that it would be in the 2010 line but it isn't. yesterday my dealer told me that Toyota has no plans to produce a plug-n model. I have 100_ thousand on my 04 and am lookng to buy a 2010 but do not want to if the plug-in version will be coming soon. Anyone able to help me? J
The last I heard is that Toyota is going to have a limited number of Plug ins as test vehicles late this year. They are going to fleet sales only and will be called back in for analysis after the lease period is over. As far as a production version, it will be a few years minimum until they have one ready. That is what I have heard. Others probably know more.
Has there ever been a topic with as much uncertaity and speculation. Why doesn't the comany issue a definitive release. It is frustrating. Thanks for your response.
It's all about the batteries!!!! Once the batteries are deemed safe and reliable enough, the plug-ins will be sold to the public.
Toyota has consistently said 2012 at the earliest for the general public. They are using the limited fleet rollouts to test different batteries and configurations. Latest story out of France this week mentioned 3 different battery systems being tested. Just because some companies are willing to throw lith batteries out there with limited lifespans and unknown reliability does not mean Toyota is going to push something out the door sooner than 2012.
