There's a lot of information about folks who converted a regular Prius to PHEV. Is there anyone out there who maybe took a Prius with a trashed HSD and turned it into an EV? The Prius body has fantastic aerodynamics so would be a good choice for an EV conversion.
Something I thought of was using two MG2s and a number of battery packs and salvaged and hacked inverter/controllers from Prius to create an electric Prius. Can it be done and would anyone do it?
I was thinkin hub motors plus two or more Prius battery packs. I'm not saying you do this to a working Prius, but it could be an interesting rebuild/salvage project. One could even make a super fast EV and race the thing. How cool would that be?
Awesome video! I've never seen anything take off so fast in my life. That A123 sponsored bike was just a blur. I like the last line:"You can be environmentally friendly and still have good time."
I've had thoughts of gutting a Honda Insight completely, tear out the exhaust, gas tank, radiator, condensor, A/C, engine, even the stock battery pack and electric motor if it can be removed. Then just bolt up an electric motor and stuff it with lead acid batteries, and go. I've seen at lease two Insights done in a similar fashion, extremely hard to find any info about the conversions. After considering that though I began to think what a similar conversion would be like with a Prius. I'm sure it would be a bit more challenging as the Insight is a fairly more simple platform to begin with and about 1,000 lbs lighter to start with means less batteries needed and greater range. I just know I'd love the comfort and passenger capabilities of the Prius though. It would almost be more worthwhile to wait for the Aptera or something though. Give it a few more years and we'll see where things go.
That's insane, but not unreal...one day everyone will catch up but there's a huge industry that wants to put electric as a niche-market fuel. *sigh*
