Thanks for all the information, particularly about not using fuel additives such as fuel injector cleaners. I wondered about that since I just had the throttle body cleaned on my 2000 Camry. I was thinking it might be good to use on my 2008 Prius that has about 13,000 miles. You probably saved me a lot of grief.

The primary difference between Prius sold by Servco Pacific and Prius distributed by TMS USA is that nav is not available in Hawaii. Therefore option packages will also vary.

No, it shouldn't. At most, you may need the cable adjusted, but only if it has slack. This shouldn't be a $200 job. My dealership charged $16 to adjust the parking brake

Actually, put a few of those $16s together and buy a Bentley Prius manual. Then you get to do all kinds of things for very cheap or zero cost.

120k service

I am getting ready to take my 2004 Pruis in for 120k service. Should I do anything other than what the book calls for?

 

If the inverter and engine coolants were not changed at 100K miles, this should definitely be done now.

If the transaxle fluid had not previously been changed, that should be done now.

In summary, I have an 04 Prius that is fast approaching 100k. I haven't done anything but routine oil changes. Does my list seem to wrap up what I need to do maintenance-wise? Should this be under $500? :cheer2:

these are all different names for essentially the same service. (the "three part" also includes a top engine cleaner aka fuel induction service and fuel additive.)

9) Air and Cabin Filters

Such weird suggestions! 1 and 2 you do when they need it, like never. 5 and 6 are really strange, like not something for a Prius. I really do not understand; does a Prius have a PCV valve somewhere? Alignment is always good when you need it and cabin air filters whenever you notice the crud building up faster than usual.

Doesn't your owner's manual have something to say about services? Do you buy your gasoline from some other country where detergents aren't added so it messes with injectors and the throttle plate? Fuel additives; you must be thinking of some GM, Ford, or Chrysler vehicle.
The Prius don't need no stinklin' additives.

I love this forum. Just to think if i had to rely on what the dealer advises, how much money would be wasted.

And to think bigbearballs's prius is running well at 100K on just periodic oil changes--as a new Prius owner, this is really good news to me, looking into the future. Mine is a pre-owned 2007 that i just got this year, and I have been helped so much by these forums, already saved about $250 on my 30K maintenance thanks to this thread. So impressed that a Prius with 100K has been fine with just oil changes.

I plan to do the stuff in the Toyota prius owner's guide maintenance schedule, but most of that is just inspections--and probably still more than what's needed.

bigbearballs--do you not need to get tires rotated every 5K if the car is driving ok? did you replace tires from time to time?

We bought the car with 80k on it and it had no service records from Toyota, so I assume it's only had oil changes. We haven't rotated the tires since we've had it (about 15k) and it's driving like a gem. We really love this car and hope it goes to 200k. I have a Honda Civic Hybrid that has 92k on it and it needs a new hybrid battery already ($3100 replacement). I wish we had two Prius's.
