The aftermarket cruise control in my Kia was always turned on, and ready to set speed at a moment's notice. I miss that feature when I try to set speed before remembering to push the button.

Last year, somebody posted somewhere that they'd made a circuit with a long enough delay ("double 55 timers" or something) to allow the cruise to activate itself a few seconds after powering on the car, but I've never heard anything about it since...

I miss having rear vents. I also miss having a sub. I'll fix that one. I wish the wipers went faster. Since i've used them soo much, the water now seems to sit on the windshield. The aerodynamics of the prius makes water hit the window pretty hard. In heavy rains i can't see. In mind rains, it's still hard to see. I need to put something on the windshield to help the water beed off.

What else do i miss?

BMW had better handling. This is a big things with me. I've been trying to find ways to tighten up the suspension. Anti sway bars and other things too.

 

It too would say I miss the ability to open the back hatch from the front somewhere. It was kind when the dealer pointed out the lever for the gas that I didn't also see a rear hatch lever there as well. My first thought to that was "Maybe they put a button on the dash". Every Corolla I have had except for a very basic model I had as had that lever. Even my Echo has that lever there. It seems to me it would have been easy for them to have done something since that latch there is electrically activated.

Anyway, that is a minor thing. And I really can't complain much about such a minor thing since I have quite a few things I have never had before, for the most part the Prius is a big step up in that sense. For one thing, I kind of stepped over the key fob thing in going from manual locks to SKS.

I know this isn't the same thing, but you know that pushing and holding the Mode button on the steering wheel shuts off the stereo system, right? I use that as the defacto "mute"/"pause" button.

I would agree that the "trunk unlock" switch would be nice -- if only for the situation where the 12V battery dies and I need to get to it. (Yup, I know about the jump points in the front of the car; but apparently some guys refuse to use that to jump the car.)

 

To "yoda" who misses his auto up/down antenna for the carwash...

Easy solution, replace your antenna with a "stub" antenna available from many sources inclusive of eBay. This allows carwash without unscrewing the original antenna. Stub antennas are available for about $10. My 2" stub receives about the same as the original.

silly minor thing but I miss the chime that sounds when you forget to turn off the turn signals.

galaxee: for a mute button, push the voice command on the steering wheel and say "audio off"

yoda: Yes I listed to Hannity, but can't take the screaming of Savage. (But some people don't think there are any Conservatives that drive a Prius, yet out side of my car club I don't know any Liberals that have one)

Thanks Charles - I'll consider a "stub" antenna. But like I said, I don't intend to use automatic car washes anyway. I love this little white prius too much and will probably hand wash it for most of it's life. Would changing the antenna affect the GPS system at all? Or is that a separate system? (How DOES it know where I am???)

Hey RMunroe - Nice to meet another "Talk Radio" addict. *Extends Hand for handshake* Yea - Savage isn't my favorite, but my radio is alway set to that station (for Rick Roberts, O'Reilly, and Hannity) so when I'm on my way home, I'm just too lazy to change it and I listen to Savage rant. I find him entertaining at least.

Oh - And although I listen to O'Reilly, I don't agree with him on many things. He just strikes me as the "Doing what I have to to further my radio career" type...... I like Rick Roberts (He's only local - here in San Diego) and I USUALLY agree with Hannity...

I'm not sure if I just haven't been in enough different types of vehicles or if it's a safety/liability issue but I've noticed that nowadays when any vehicle that has a rear hatch which opens to the passenger compartment, there is no rear hatch release in the front. But like I said, I've not been in a whole lot of variety of vehicles.

 

hmm good observation, until you mentioned it, it was something i did know but hadnt connected it. so maybe the lack of hatch release is a safety issue?

seems to me that there would be a way to release it remotely if the car wasnt running.

What I mean is, power or not, if the rear opens into the cabin, i.e. mini van, SUV, hatchback vs one that does not open into the cabin, i.e. trunk. most/all manufacturers may have found they may be liable for certain types of accidents if a front release is available and have chosen not to include this function in there cars. This may also be the reason for the lack of having a power latch/hatch which would render a hatch release button on the fob useless.

 

I love my Prius, but I miss:

1) better handling, in particular sharper steering with more feedback
2) a decent sound system. Alas the JBL is about the worst 'premium' system I have ever laid my ears on...
3) heated seats with lumbar adjustment
