OK Boys and Girls, go to this eBay site and check out this goodie for sale .....Make sure you come back to read the rest of this post...

    Item number: 260373754846

eBay Motors: PERFORMANCE CHIP TOYOTA PRIUS 06-08 35+ HP 8 MPG (item 260373754846 end time Mar-10-09 18:40:11 PDT)

What do you all think. I would think that Team Toyota would have figured out the optimum settings for Mass Air Flow data, and screwing with this would be a BAD thing EGON!!

What do you all say??? Time to modify software???
I think this is a good topic to start a thread with!

Don't forget that lowering your ride by removing the springs also adds horsepower :D

The guy cannot even spell correctly: "Then you're in the rite spot."

Would you buy from this guy? I think not.

If you ask, i think the product will not produce the "seat of the pants feel" that it claims. working on the MASS and creating a hotter spark all equate to an efficient combustion cycle, but as for feeling this gain, i dont think we will. furthermore, the more you stand on the throttle, the more fuel is wasted, so having both worlds is just not possible.

example is: my vette can get close to 30mpg on the highway if i'm driving it like my prius, but once i open it up and let the 400 ponies go, i dont think of mpgs anymore. in theory, it's the same with the prius. once you stomp WOT, dont worry about mileage.

If it does anything, it sounds like a high-tech variant of the air bleed device. Presumably it lies to the ECM about the amount of air going in, saying there's less than there really is, causing the ECM to inject less fuel and therefore burn leaner.

Unfortunately, burning leaner means burning hotter, which causes more NOx formation. That's why Toyota don't do it, and stick to stoichometric air/fuel mixture.

In addition, under 'closed loop' fuel control, the car monitors the exhaust gas oxygen content and adjusts the injected fuel appropriately. Of course you can change the software to ignore the O2 sensor as well, but then you're really breaking emissions laws.

You missed the best part of the description:

"Not only is this a look-a-like copy but the design is faulty as well."

Maybe I should order two in case two wrongs do make a right :)

I couldn't even read the whole thing. I found so many factual errors (not to mention spelling errors) that my brain shut off about 1/2 way down the page.

It's like he just didn't care.

An obvious scammer. Several years ago, I reported one of these to Ebay because it was so egregous. The guy was selling a device to increase hp (supposedly) at the expense of emission control. It took about 24 hrs for Ebay to remove his post.

Mmm...higher combustion in the chambers. And more spark! I loves more spark! Talk of Mass Air System Flow (MASF) must truly mean the product is legitimate. Especially considering that it will allow me to get from first and second gears to third even faster, because that's what my engine is generally pushing until I cross.

In other words, the whole thing was written by a semi-literate 16 year old with an IQ of about 85 who spent a couple of days searching the internet racing forums for car language. But hey, his feedback is 100%! (Because he bought something.)

Some devices are sold that both increase HP and MPG. They all do this by illegally defeating emissions equipment.

They should skip this idea and just put a magnet on the fuel line. ;)

Is that in addition to the vortex generator in the intake?

At least the magnet has the potential of being installed. Just exactly where does one plug in this aftermarket chip? All the chips in the ECUs that I've seen are soldered in. This is worse than a square plug in a round hole - there isn't even a hole!

First off, except for the headline and the lead and ending picture, the Prius is not mentioned in the ad. Talking about shift points and such, it doesn't seem that it is tailored for the Prius specifically, which something like this would have to be. Yet for some reason it only works on the 2006-08 Prius, so those '04-'05 drivers are out in the cold in this case.

Secondly, the same product apparently exists (or at least was marketed) for the Audi S8, Ford Freestyle, Mazda Tribute and Chevy Colorado. All of which amazingly also produced exactly an extra 35 HP and 8 MPG.

Finally, bidding has ended for this with no sales and so far none of the other products have yet been sold, thankfully.
