I'm located in Rochester, NY and I just bought my Prius from a private seller who lived a ways west of where I am, so he took his car to a dealership for service that is farther than I would want to drive. There are four Toyota dealerships within reasonable driving distance from me, but I'm not sure how to go about choosing one. I actually went to a place called Dorschel when I had a Saab, because they also sell those, but I felt like they really gouged me and so I never went back. Then again, their Toyota department could be really good. There is another place right down the street from me, but I hate to have to try each of them out and have to go through a bad experience. For the most part, I plan to continue taking my car to an independent shop that I have been going to for years that I really trust, but I know they won't be able to do everything. They haven't worked on too many Prii, but I trust them to let me know if there is something they don't want to handle. Any suggestions on how to test drive a service department without having to shell out the cash to see what kind of job they do first? Or if anyone in my area has experience with these places, let me know!
I've had good luck, so far, with Hoselton, but haven't had anything major, yet. I have a problem now that will require some diagnosis, so we'll see what happens if the people here can't help me figure it out before I go.
I have previous experience with Hoselton and find their shop very good. I have done all routine maint myself, but buy parts (filters) from them and their parts people are very helpful (even though I bought my Prius from Dorschel). Note: I purchased the Prius from Dorschel only because they had the model I wanted AND made a deal that I really couldn't refuse. HOWEVER, I really can't speak to Hoselton's Prius expertise. I just know that their service Dept is reputable.
